The Catholic Church invented marriage. Before it, men owned women as they did cattle and goats.

No Catholic should believe the Church invented marriage. God invented marriage. The Church just teaches that it is a sacrament (instituted by Christ - a sort of re-invention of marriage in grace when you think about it), and that it should be filled with the love of Christ.

Bzzzt!  Evidently not.

Matt 19:4-6

4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,'  5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?  6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
NIV

Please describe how the relationship between Christ and His church mirrors the relationship between husband and wife?
