Ever since 1918, at the end of the First World War, the Western world has been in a period of respite, whether we recognize it or not, from the predations of a ravenous Empire which menaced the West for 400 years.
We who have been born and raised in this post Ottoman period for the most part don’t even know that a little more than a hundred years ago, all of the West had to deal with a powerful and avaricious Sunni menace, which altered world trade routes, controlled the entire Middle East including the Holy Land, and encroached deep into the Eastern European Balkans, enslaving and impoverishing millions of Orthodox Christians at will.
Turkey was the seat of the Caliphate, and even in decline she exerted powerful influence as an ally of Germany. Almost 100 years ago, She was not afraid to execute a massive genocide even late in the World War, killing 1.5 million Armenians, and driving the rest of them and any other Greek or Assyrian Christians out of the country, via tortuous death marches through the Syrian desert. The “Christian world” raised little or no protest.
But then Turkey was transformed by one of the most vigorous reform projects ever undertaken in the modern world. Gamal Mustafa, aka Attaturk literally drug the Sunni Muslim country into the twentieth century, literally changing the Turkish language and alphabet (and achieving almost 100 percent literacy), banishing the Fez, the veils, the religious Madrassas, Muslim religious orders, and creating a modern European style Republic complete with a constitution.
And perhaps most importantly, Kemal shut down the Caliphate, which is the ancient central Military, religious and political authority for the World’s Sunni Muslims (75 percent of all Muslims).
Turkey was an ally of the United States and Western Europe in the cold war, she was a member of NATO and grew into a prosperous, stable European nation. Turkey was even a friend and defense partner with the state of Israel, which miraculously came back into existence in 1948.The military of Turkey was charged with the task of keeping Turkey secular, and she did indeed intervene four times in the modern world when Islamist elements attempted to steer Turkey back to her radical ways.
Erdogan has been a political figure since 1994 when he served as Mayor of Istanbul.By Turkish law, Erdogan shouldn’t even be holding a public office because of a legal conviction he received for reciting “religious hatred”, when he publicly recited a poem that had these lines”“The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers…”. This should have been a portent.
But when his Justice and Development party swept into power in 2001, they passed a constitutional amendment which allowed Erdogan to run again and the Justice and Development power swept Erdogan into the presidency. The Rise of Erdogan .
Erdogan has been able to out maneuver the guardians of secularism in the Turkish Army and is in the process of openly and radically re-Islamizing Turkey, and with much popular support.
Part of that reIslamization process involves Erdogan’s anti-Semitic demagoguery according to a columnist for the Jerusalem Post in an article called Erdogan is an AntiSemitic Bigot-
Since his demagogic outburst against President Shimon Peres in Davos live on TV in January 2009, followed by his dramatic storming out of the meeting, Erdogan’s attitude toward Israel has dramatically deteriorated.
He shamelessly allies himself with the genocidal Hamas and refers to Israel as a “terrorist state” which “massacres children” and “knows well how to kill.” Only a few weeks ago, Erdogan hosted Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Turkey for the third time in 12 months.
Clearly, he reached the conclusion that as a major global Israel-basher he reaps dividends among the Arab masses and furthers his dream of becoming head of a new Ottoman Sunni empire.
Erdogan dedicated the Saladdin international airport, in the restive Kurdish section of South East Turkey, Erdogan explained that the given name of the airport was symbolic-
“We are naming this airport Selahaddin Eyyubi to send a message of solidarity and brotherhood and to say that Jerusalem belongs to Kurds, Turks, Arabs and Muslims forever.”
Turkey’s future according to the Bible is to lead a massive coalition of Islamic States into the final battle with Israel, and not to be a modern, secular reformed Islamic state. Erdogan’s significance is that it is evidently his role to reverse the reforms of Atatturk and to bring back the beastly Caliphate which was dismantled in 1922.
Wrong, Erdogan - Jerusalem first of all belongs to Almighty God (not your “Allah”) and then to Israel.
