Irish bishops defend pro-life constitutional amendment

Ireland’s bishops “strongly oppose any weakening of the affirmation of the right to life of the unborn,” according to a statement issued at the conclusion of a three-day meeting of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

The bishops “acknowledged that respect for the sacredness of every human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death is critical to the right of all citizens to be treated equally and with dignity,” according to the statement.
