Christian Student Expelled for Opposing Gay Marriage

Social worker postgraduate is told quoting the Bible in Facebook discussion could cause offence

A Christian postgraduate student has been expelled from his course, effectively ending his chances of a career as a social worker, for voicing opposition to gay marriage in a Facebook discussion.

Felix Ngole, a 38-year-old father of four, expressed support for Kim Davis, the county clerk from Kentucky in the US who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licences after the introduction of same-sex unions in September last year.

He argued that homosexual activity is against the teaching of the Bible, quoting a verse from Leviticus describing it as an "abomination".

The post, from his private Facebook account, was part of a discussion thread in which other users voiced their opinions on all sides of the debate.

It was not until two months later that he was summoned to a disciplinary hearing at Sheffield University after a fellow student complained about his post.

He said he was initially not even told what he was accused of doing. He was eventually told that it involved breaching social work guidelines on "personal conduct" and "bringing the profession into disrepute".

Academia....where questioning of all dogma and free and frank discussion of any and all issues is welcomed.

Just so long as it's your dogma and not ours.

academia is like conservative heaven compared to the social workers cabal. Genuine diaper babies, many of them, never taken a course or held a job outside of the socialist cocoon.

I would think endorsing sexual perversion would bring the profession into disrepute more than opposing it would. But that’s only true if being a Christian was reputable and being a pud-smoker was not.

Let me just say that I drove to the event when Davis was released from jail.

I did not post about it on FB.

We are living in a post-constitutional fascist country where politically incorrect statements can and WILL be used against you to deprive you of your livelihood.

I do not think that the next election will fix that.

U.K. epitome of P.C.

God forbid the U.S.A. falls over that cliff as well. Hangin’ by a thread, but hopefully it won’t break.

My degree is in social work-I didn’t buy the bulls*** at the agency I worked for, so I went to work in the private world-as a workers comp case manager-as soon as I could manage it-much better, since you deal in real solutions for clients, in the real world. Stayed there until I got tired of the whining for undeserved benefits that started when Clinton was in office and was deafening by 2003, when I left to work someplace else...

Tell her that escape is possible-those skills are transferable to a real-world job-it just takes a lot of looking and maybe get certified in voc rehab-I did it.

I do not partake in political comments on Facebook, or even Disqus. I limit my Facebook activities to those related to bicycle racing and fitness interests, yet I suspect that even on those subjects I my soon need to “tone it down” due to the prevailing view that those over 60 should not do excessive exercise.

My first stint in college was preparation for a master's degree in social work.

One day, as a sophomore, I realized that I was really training to be a professional beggar.

And, I got the heck out of Dodge.

He’s in England where there is no Bill of Rights.

England has had a “Bill of Rights” since 1689.

I spent some time consulting to the Betty Ford Center until she slowed down and eventually left and they went to hell. Invested in a small business and don’t regret a thing. The patients were far saner than the staff at every place I had to interact with. She was a force.

If you read their version you will find that they are not quite like ours.

The Muslims are going to fix that. They won't have to worry about "gay marriage" because there won't be any living homosexuals to attempt it, at least none that will come out of hiding.

I used to post lots of political commentary on FB. But no more. I do sometimes post responses to other’s political commentary. Mostly I just ignore political posts. I tend to lose respect for people on FB when I discover their political
leanings. I find that I am posting less and less on FB. Lately, like you, I just post running enthusiast stuff.
