C. S. Lewis for one might have challenged the idea of hell as having no love in it. It has plenteous love, for itself. The results, given that it is in general under the wrath of God, are weird.

I’ve sometimes wondered if the burning in hell isn’t from being exposed to the holiness of God in an unredeemed state. Not that He’s deliberately sending people to a place of fire to punish them because He’s vindictive or cruel, but that’s just the natural consequence of being in His presence in our natural state.

Our God is a consuming fire and since there is no place where He is not, then there’s no way to escape his presence.

Those who think that they can reject God and go to heaven would not find heaven a very pleasant place to be.
