Whether real or perceived, the stigma of unplanned pregnancy and abortion is an important issue for pro-lifers to address, especially in Christian churches, according to a new study.
A report by LifeWay Research found that many women facing unplanned pregnancies go silently from the church pew to the abortion clinic because they are afraid of being judged rather than helped.
âMore than 4 in 10 women who have had an abortion were churchgoers when they ended a pregnancy,â according to the study, Baptist Press reports.
Only 7 percent discussed their abortion decision with someone at church; and 76 percent said the church had no influence on their decision to abort their unborn child, according to the study.
âThatâs a huge opportunity for the church to have an impact on those decisions,â Scott McConnell, vice president of LifeWay Research, told the Christian news outlet. He called on churches to openly extend more grace to women facing crisis pregnancies.
âWomen are perceiving judgment from the church, and thatâs probably partly because there are clear teachings in the Bible including about how and why we make judgments,â McConnell said. âHowever, if they donât start experiencing something different than what theyâve seen in the past, these numbers arenât going to change.â
Among women who have had an abortion, according to the study:
Two-thirds (65 percent) say church members judge single women who are pregnant. A majority (54 percent) thinks churches oversimplify decisions about pregnancy options. Fewer than half (41 percent) believe churches are prepared to help with decisions about unwanted pregnancies. Only 3 in 10 think churches give accurate advice about pregnancy options.
A strong majority of the post-abortive women who were surveyed identified as Christians, with 43 percent saying they had attended church monthly or even more often at the time of their abortion, according to the study.
Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.
âBut distrust of the churchâs response is widespread, the survey shows. Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) believe church members are more likely to gossip about a woman considering abortion than to help her understand options,â according to CareNet.
âWhen weighing an abortion decision, women say they expected or experienced judgment (33 percent) or condemnation (26 percent) from a church far more than caring (16 percent) or helpfulness (14 percent).â
Most women would not recommend that a friend or family member facing an unplanned pregnancy discuss it with someone at church, according to the study. And only about a third of women called church a âsafe placeâ to discuss pregnancy options, the study found.
âWhile much work needs to be done to equip the church to help women and men with their pregnancy decisions, there are positive signs that many churches will be receptive to efforts to implement programming that addresses this need,â said Roland C. Warren, president and CEO of Care Net.
According to the survey, women who attended church regularly were much more likely to say they had a positive church response to an unplanned pregnancy or abortion, than those who rarely or never attended church.
Supportive responses from the church are key, McConnell said.
âFor most women with an unwanted pregnancy, if nobody is willing to say, âWeâre going to help you through this,â itâs hard for them to rationally say they should keep the child,â McConnell said.
The survey, conducted by CareNet, included 1,038 women who had abortions.
So did LifeWayResearch get their data from that Planned Parenthood organization who does 97% of their business giving advice on contraception, pap smears, mammograms and such (and who DOESN’T ever never ever sell aborted baby parts?)
I suspect that there is one common characteristic about a lot of the women who both have abortions and attend church. Not one that we are allowed to mention or talk about in today’s society, but one that I suspect exists nevertheless.
The numbers reported are disheartening as they indicate that we have Christian Women, or at least women that claim to be Christian, murdering their babies and doing so at rates that dwarf all the killing done in war and terrorist attacks.
And while I respect your donations to church libraries about “abortion healing and forgiveness” I think more measures must be taken to stop these Christian Women from killing their babies.

** 70% Say They are Christians**
Then they are Christians in name only.
If we don’t stop this, how can we have enough humans for the next generation?
Matthew 7:21-23King James Version (KJV)
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
What part of “thou shalt not kill,” do they not understand?
Abortion is and always has been genocide.
I also leave business cards from the local crisis pregnancy center at my church. When they are gone I leave more. Sometimes people take them because they know of girls who are pregnant, other times I have no idea and I’m just glad they are taken.
I also visit other churches in the area and drop off some there.
also...watch this video...it is shocking but I have heard personal stories and I know ones like in this video are true...

The one common characteristic that these Christian Women share is that they do not value Life as defined by any Christian Church.
We need to know, why these women do not value life and would rather kill than embrace Motherhood?
Can we assume that the secular media is so powerful that it has more influence on these women these women than Christ?
But what forever reason, we can see with these numbers that Christian Women are aborting their babies and higher rates than Atheist women or women of any other Religion.
"The survey, conducted by CareNet, included 1,038 women who had abortions."
“Abortion is and always has been genocide.”
Yes, but why are Christian Women committing genocide at rates greater than women of other faiths and even those of no faith?
Mrs D please watch the video I’ve posted!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9xeQ6w0GSY

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WILL YOU WATCH THIS????
Think about why this survey was published, and what agenda the people paying for it may have.
This is brought up to say “Hey! ALL YOU CHRISTIANS ARE EVIL HYPOCRITES!”.
Also, there are a number of women who have had abortions and then repented of it.
The leftists are good. They have successfully changed the meanings of words to get their agenda through. Aborting a fetus is not taking a life because fetus is just an inanimate bit of human anatomy. Just like removing an appendix...
Our country is so screwed.
We live in a day when it is cheap and means little to call oneself a Christian.
True Christians (only God knows who they are - I certainly don’t) are true believer’s in the Lord Jesus Christ, and seek to walk with Him in all they do.
Not to say many true Christians haven’t had abortions - many have. And almost all that have regret it and have repented of it - and been forgiven by a gracious God - because that sin too was covered in the shed blood of His Son.......
"However, if they don't start experiencing something different than what they've seen in the past, these numbers aren't going to change."
Whether we say that are "fake Christians" or "CINO's" or "apostates" or "murderers," the fact is that these church-going girls are not hearing what they need to hear when they do go to church.
Out outreach and instruction are too thin, too non-specific, and not geared toward what will really be helpful in the crunch of an actual situation.
Our lambs are being slaughtered, and our shepherds are saying "Not my problem."
Thank you. At least it doesn’t seem to be a PP shill company looking for ways to validate abortion because “Christian girls get them too”.
