African Catholics 'accept simple answers to difficult questions', says editor of bishops' website

The editor of the German bishops' website has said that the Catholic Church continues to grow in Africa because of a lack of education and because Africans have nothing else in their life, according to First Things.

Bjorn Odendahl, writing at Katholisch.de in an article entitled "The Romantic, Poor Church", said: "So also in Africa. Of course the Church is growing there. It grows because the people are socially dependent and often have nothing else but their faith.

"It grows because the educational situation there is on average at a rather low level and the people accept simple answers to difficult questions [of faith]. Answers like those that Cardinal Sarah of Guinea provides.

What if the whole world adopted the Chinese model of the Patriotic Catholic Association with real Catholics having to practice their faith in secret at the risk of their freedom?

Would the German Bishops be advising the World Government how to crack down on those dangerous but irrelevant fanatics, the Papist Catholics?

The German author. He reminds me of the gone-to-seed Jerry Mathers.

I’m Anglican and I thank God daily for our African bishops. They are the voice of Scripture, reason and Tradition against the secularism and hedonism of the West. May God uphold and defend them in the times to come.

Gads! I read the article and the nasty things the Gemans said, particularly about the brilliant and extremely well educated Cardinal Sarah, made my mouth drop open. But remember, Germany is the country where contributions to the church are extorted by force by the state and therefore people are leaving the churches (both Catholic and Protestant) in droves.

Lazy Slander? Sounds to me it’s hard-driving heresy and unChristian-like. This Pope is a mess. I hope when Frank dies, soon, that Pope Benedict XVI returns.

FYI, if you hadn’t heard, the Anglican Ordinariate for Catholics just got their own Bishop.

And it is very good news. The FSSP has been waiting 25 years. Still no Bishop.
