Full headline: Soaring Steeple and Classical Portico [Saint Martin-in-the-Fields and the American Protestant Church]

Comment: all beautiful structures, but it is very interesting to note the architectural differences between classic Protestant church design and classic Catholic church design. It reflects the differences in the liturgical worship.

Besides having a very famous orchestra, I didn’t know that St. Martin-in-the-fields was the direct model for so many New England and colonial churches and meeting houses.

I don’t know how close it has to get in order to count, but here’s a humongous Catholic Church building that has the portico and steeple treatment:

I have to take that back. The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields seems to have no connection with the church mentioned, except that the first performance of a string group (which grew to become the eponymous orchestra) was in that church, and they simply kept the name for their own.
