Appeal comes in briefing paper sent to English bishops attending family synod
Gay Catholics have sent a briefing paper to the two English bishops attending the family synod next week, urging them to reject harsh language about homosexuality.
The LGBT Catholics Briefing Paper resulted from a reflection day, sponsored by the LGBT Catholics Westminster Pastoral Council, held in June 2013.
The briefing paper is addressed to Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, and Bishop Peter Doyle, Bishop of Northampton and chairman of the bishops conference Committee for Marriage and Family Life, who will be at the synod which opens on Sunday.
An accompanying press release says the briefing paper calls for the harsh language of previous Vatican documents referring to LGBT people as disordered to be rescinded and urges the synod to reject the global criminalisation of homosexual activities, including the use of the death penalty.
It also calls on the Vatican to begin a listening process, to last between three to five years, including bishops, theologians, gay people and their parents, parish clergy and pastoral workers.
The aim, it says, would be to develop models of pastoral care which more closely reflect Pope Franciss call for mercy, justice and equality, particularly applying this to the concerns of LGBT people, parents and families.
Gay Catholics from the Diocese of Westminster will also be involved in the launch of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholicism in Rome.

Gee, you’d think homosexuals would be more.....uhhhhh....tolerant?
Yo, homosexuals, just what is it about Catholicism you find attractive in the first place?
Call them all to repentance. Unbiblical language AND unbiblical lifestyles are both to be brought under the submission of The Cross.
There is no such thing as a GAY Christian.
You are either GAY = HOMOSEXUAL
or you identify with CHRIST = SAVIOR, decidedly not disordered.
It’s like saying “I’m a Boston Red Socks Yankee fan.”
See how that doesn’t quite work?
Are glutton-Catholics going to weigh in, just to make sure that there’s no harsh language towards slobs?
Gay Catholics...
No such creatures exist in reality. What IS real are men and women created in the image of God, some of whom suffer from same sex attractions because of the taint of Original Sin. Other men and women suffer from impulsive heterosexual desires that are disordered as well, such as fornication and masturbation. Should we stop calling those sins "sins"'too because it's too "harsh"?
These people need to get a grip on reality. Defining oneself by terms such as "gay" or "homosexual" reduces the man (or woman) to a slave of sexual impulse (in other words an animal). A person's dignity, their worth as a human being is not derived or defined by their impulsive desires. We aren't animals we are human beings who have a will that is able to overcome disordered desires with God's help.
Settling for anything less (by "identifying" oneself as "LGBT" or any other letter of the alphabet) is simply and truly the slavery the Devil brings. For the love of all that is holy and true, be dignified human beings people.
The vestments.
:: to reject harsh language about homosexuality ::
Interestingly enough, the church simply echoes the “harsh language of God Himself.
That is to say, the LGBT “political movement” has issue with God.
I think there can be Gay Christians. However, they need to know they are called to be celibate.
I always wondered why the language is so hateful against gay men, but gay women are not mentioned.
Romans 1 does mention women as well.
To be somewhat indelicate, look at the practices of the “lesbian” community; penetration is the norm.
Yes, Paul does address the female error in Romans 1 but there are passages in the Old Berith which point to lesbian practices. (Leviticus may be one).
I’m at work so don’t have my references at immediate hand.

Rectal viginity?
Gay Catholics are really between a rock and a hard place. They want what they CANNOT have and are ticked off beyond reason.
Either they will grow up or spend the rest of their lives bitter, resentful and unhappy.
Thank you for that post. I could not have said it better myself. God bless you.
Thanks and your welcome. God bless you too.
"...the due penalty for their perversity." Could that possibly mean that they died of a withering disease such as AIDS?? Hmmmmm.
