I have observed that, theology aside, the best practical argument against ordaining women to the ministry is the women themselves.

And the argument for it. At best they can only address the congregation with their pastors permission, but have no doctrinal or administrative authority.

Visited a UMC service recently. I was sickened by the effeminate pastor and his all girl eldership.

It's a symptom of the times. Women hold a veto in current marriages. If they don't like a church, then the family doesn't go. If the husband doesn't like a church, then he goes anyway, to keep the peace.

Thus priests and pastors cater to the whims of the women in the church, because they know who really controls what, if anything, gets contributed or tithed. Thus we have church music leaning towards the "Jesus is My Boyfriend" style.

Thus we have preachers finding fault with men, but never women, in their sermons about relationships and marriage, because they know that blasting men is safe, but even suggesting women have responsibilities to hold up their end of the marriage will get them in trouble.

Men who don't like feminized churches will have to just go with all-men prayer groups, meeting separately.

I am glad to hear this. I have had only limited contact with LDS people -- but one gal who impressed me was a college freshman who was active in a student prolife group. She had great commitment and values, and was not afraid to speak and act in congruence with her beliefs in Jesus Christ and not the corrupt or chaotic "culture" of the college. She was great friends with both the Catholic and Evagelical pro-lifers, too. Rebels, they tended to stick together with all allies!

I think the "Two Years of Mission" program is a great idea -- one that evidently works.

The problem is that society as a whole —starting at the very top — has gone bad. When ever a church tries to line up with contemporary ethics — which are essentially unscripturally androgynous— the church dies. Why? because there’s no point in going to church anymore.

That's why the CHURCH (not any one denomination but believers as individuals) are to be salt and light.

Believers are supposed to prevent the moral decay that we see. What we see in society as a whole is just the fruit of people abandoning their faith.

What we sowed in the wind, we are reaping in the whirlwind, and we haven't seen anything yet. We rode too long on the coattails of the moral base this country had by being founded on the grassroots people of faith, holding to Biblical principles.

I have met women who have openly stated that they would not submit to their husbands leadership and view their ability to lead with open contempt.

And in the one case, the man is a very spiritually mature and astute believer, and his wife is a nutcase.

I have great respect for the LDS Church and LDS people and witnessed the strength of their community in passing along great values to their children.

The mission program I think is especially beneficial to young men and helps direct them on right paths at an age when the outside world temptations are great. Don’t know if that is what does it or not but it seems to be an idea that has many benefits.

The Rules

Learn and obey all missionary rules.
Keep your thoughts, words, and actions in harmony with the gospel message.
Read only books, magazines, and other material authorized by the Church.
Don't debate or argue.
Center your mind on your mission.
Dress conservatively. Elders: white shirts, conservative ties, and business suits. Sisters: conservative colors and skirts that cover your knees. No floor-length skirts or dresses.
Cut your hair regularly.
Keep your hair clean and neatly combed at all times in the approved style.
Be neat and clean.
Bathe frequently.
Use deodorant.
Polish your shoes.
Iron your shirt and business suit.
Arise at 6:30 A.M.
Study for 2 hours every morning.

Do not visit a single or divorced person of the opposite sex unless accompanied by a couple or another adult member of your sex.
Try to teach single investigators in a member’s home or have missionaries of the same sex teach them.
Always follow the above rules, even if the situation seems harmless.
Use the commitment pattern to get referrals from members.
Keep your dinner visits with member briefs and during the customary dinner hour in the area.
Remember to say thank you to those who feed you.
Visit members and nonmembers only at appropriate times.
Do not counsel or give medical treatment.
Do not stay in the homes of people when they are on vacation.
Only write letters to family members and friends at home.
Do not telephone parents
Do not telephone relatives.
Do not telephone friends.
Do not telephone girlfriends.
Contact your mission president in case of an emergency.

Do not provide community service during the evening, weekend or holidays—those are peek proselytizing times.
Your mission president must approve your housing.
Keep your housing unit clean.
Do not live with single or divorced people of the opposite sex.
Do not live where the spouse is frequently absent.
Your living unit must have a private bath and entrance.
You may occasionally fast for a special reason, but generally the monthly fast is sufficient.
Do not fast longer than 24 hours at a time.
Do not ask friends, relatives, and members to join in special fasts for investigators.
Maintain your health.
Eat a healthy diet.
Sleep from 10:30 to 6:30.
Follow the approved exercise program.
Keep your body, clothes, dishes, linens, towels and housing unit clean.
Dispose of your garbage properly and promptly.
Follow the safety rules for all of your stuff.
Seek medical care if you are in an accident or become sick.

Spend your money only on things relating to your mission.

Or they don't interpret it quite that way. LDS people participate in politics, civic organizations, and social movements, as well a jobs, schools, recreations, and hobby activities, and make friends there like anybody else. Lillian (the LDS student I referenced) sure did, as far as I could see.

So my impression is that their religious leadership does not actually require them to shun non-LDS.
