The preparatory document for the Catholic Church’s Family Synod “poses a very real danger to the family”, says Voice of the Family http://voiceofthefamily.info , an international coalition of pro-life and pro-family organisations.
The document, known as the Instrumentum Laboris (Latin for “working tool”), will be discussed by bishops from around the world, when the second round of the Church’s Synod on the Family is held in the Vatican this October.
Matthew McCusker of Voice of the Family has authored an in-depth analysis (executive summary and full text) of the document.
John Smeaton, co-founder of Voice of the Family, said: “The Instrumentum Laboris threatens the entire structure of Catholic teaching on marriage, the family and human sexuality.
“The document undermines the doctrine of Humanae Vitae on contraception, is neutral on the killing of unborn children by IVF, and prepares the ground for Church acceptance of cohabitation and same-sex unions.
“The Instrumentum Laboris also resurrects the discredited Kasper proposals for Holy Communion for unrepentant adulterers, reduces the indissolubility of marriage to a mere ‘ideal’, and undermines the position of parents as their children’s primary educators.”
Mr Smeaton continued: “Voice of the Family urges Catholics not to be complacent or give in to a false sense of obedience, in the face of attacks on the fundamental principles of the natural law.
“Catholics have a duty to oppose the direction being taken at the Synod. If that direction is not reversed, the greatest victims will be those who are most vulnerable, especially children, born and unborn”, concluded Mr Smeaton.

Who keeps the Vatican? More likely there will be Orthodox Catholics in some type of union with the Orthodox Church. The poor Maronites won’t know what to do.

The Formation of Affectivity
32. Families need to recognize their direct responsibility in the formation of affectivity in younger generations. The speed with which changes are occurring in contemporary society makes guidance in achieving the affectivity of the whole person more difficult. This also requires that pastoral workers be trained properly, with not only a thorough knowledge of Scripture and Catholic doctrine but also pedagogical tools, as well as a suitable number of sociologists and doctors. A knowledge of the psychology of the family will be of assistance in effectively transmitting a Christian conception of affectivity. This effort at education might already begin with the catechesis of Christian initiation.
