A family friend sent me a link to my ex husband's Facebook page telling me that I would not believe it. She was right. We split 25 years ago. While politics played no role in our issues, we were night and day in that arena.
When we were married, he was a barely practicing Jew. His Facebook page shows a changed man. He is now quite vocal about issues affecting Isreal and has a good working understanding of who obama really is. And apparently omama gets all the credit for the transformation. I pray that many more see the light.
Well, good for him. If you don’t mind me asking, how old is he?
It’s happening in the “Reform” community more than you know but it is on the down-lo. I know of 2 in the last 6 months, one seeing who and what Obama is in terms of Israel, the other is a shocker with a lot of pro-gun related post on FB. Oh the couple I met @ a Gun Show a year ago, that was a wake up call too...
Sometimes it takes matters getting REALLY BAD before people are willing to see the light. Glad you ex has. Kinda. Sorta.
He would be 64 now.

We do have Jews here, and my wife is a Jew too. :)
Would have liked to read more of that story.
It’s never too late to awaken.
There’s not much to the story. He was a product of a a self made millionaire and his Jewish Russian bride whose family escaped during the revolution. I can’t say much more about the background. But ex hubby hated the success story and rebelled in every way. He hated Ronald Reagan which almost made me leave him. Wish I had.
From the human standpoint, a Jew is someone born to a Jewish mother or converted according to Jewish law.
But from God’s standpoint, a Jew is someone with a Jewish soul. That soul will not be denied. “Your people also shall be all righteous...” (Isaiah 60).
The specifics of politics are just a garment.
I totally agree about the garment thing. But we so often wonder here on FR why Jewish people are so loyal to dems no matter reality. If people are waking, even thick ones..its
E good.
Jews are used to negotiating with the ruling class to protect themselves as a community. As today’s GOP proves, Democrats are not only the political ruling class in most places where Jews live, Democrats are also the ruling class of the nation as a whole.

“We do have Jews here, and my wife is a Jew too. :)”
Free republic is actually pretty friendly to Jews, as long as they aren’t the George Soros type. Pro Israel.
You should know as you say you were married to a liberal Jew that it has everything to do with who they think they can control. It also has to do with herding, notions of solidarity and exploiting weakness or finding the path of least resistance.
The GOP is 80%+ White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Liberal Jews can’t identify with that group because of the shear size and difficulty to control (many more Jews would be Christians today had it not been for the fact that Greeks in the time of the Apostles outnumbered them more than 10 to 1 thereby threatening them with a near complete loss of cultural identity had they folded in the Christian movement). The democrat party allows them to be in the drivers seat on many issues of control until Obama came along. They have been in denial but will now flock to Hillary because they have no where else to go and because Hillary will take their money and give them a license to do some things they want to do.
There are no principles in the democrat party other than money and power. The rules of political correctness are easy to assimilate. Liberal American Jews fit into all that quite well and they benefit from it.
Moderate American Jews don’t last long (e.g. Sen. Joe Lieberman) so they are considered as non-players and their size is very small.
Conservative American Jews are the best. They are smart, hard-working, sensitive, secure and respectful of American principles and most importantly they are non-judgmental which distinguishes them from liberal Jews in America. They have adapted to remain neutral in most respects as their numbers are small and they can suffer by being outspoken. They are great teachers and great truth-seekers. Although they are a minority among all Jews in America, they are more prevalent in Israel than liberal Jews there and that is because they are in control there; they need not find a weak party to exploit for their own purposes. They get the upper hand in most matters because their inner strength is greater than that of their liberal Jew counterparts; the Jewish people in Israel see this inner strength and the control it engenders, and they follow it. The predominance of conservative Judaism in Israel greatly irks liberal American Jews who have sprung an Anti-Zionist attitude in response.
There’s a lot of us. I have been a conservative Republican from day one. Born into it, so to say. Grew up in the most liberal enclave of Long, Island New York. Finally found my home in Mohave County, AZ the reddest County in the Country, thank you. But so many of my childhood friends are coming around. They write me. The one issue that will do us in is gay marriage. There is an entire generation who has grown up believing gays have a right to marry. In the cities you are never going to change that mindset. Gay marriage is not the hill I’m going to die on. If that is yours, fine. But you will never win hearts and minds with that issue.
> “Gay marriage is not the hill Im going to die on. If that is yours, fine. But you will never win hearts and minds with that issue.”
You haven’t comer around to anything.
To defeat homosexual normalization, no one needs to ‘die on a hill’ and no one needs to “win hearts and minds”.
To be conservative requires a person to be smart. In view of the above, I would say you are a person that has learned how to blend in but at core you are nothing.
> “There is an entire generation who has grown up believing gays have a right to marry.”
Entire generation eh? An entire generation of your NY liberal cult.
An ‘entire’ generation has been exposed and influenced but has not ‘entirely’ subscribed. This hyperbole reveals your lack of depth. The fad of ‘rainbow’ ‘gay’ symbols is an inch deep and will pass away in the next 5 years, easily.
