God’s hand was definitely present in the forming of this country, although I wonder if he’s done with us now.
Geo. Washington’s Inaugural address — remembering God’s Hand in the formation of this nation.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Rev. War/George WAshington ping list.
I have read all of Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series, which (to greatly simplify and paraphrase) is a historical fiction that follows a Scottish Jacobite family from pre-Culloden in 1743 to their escape to North Carolina and their participation in the Revolutionary War. One of my favorite scenes of the whole series is the fog rolling in and the army escaping Long Island. The author really captured the supernatural quality of that extraordinary “Hand of God” event.

George was right on target with that comment, Heaven has smiled on the US throughout it's history because prior to today's generation the people and their government honored God and enacted laws based on His written Word. But those days are gone forever, and God has now been declared by most self-defined "intellectuals" to be just an imaginary being invented by primitive humanoids to explain the natural processes of nature.
How can we or any other nation believe for one moment that God will ignore our nation's disregard for his rules of proper conduct for government and individuals? There's no secret as to why the US is in the process of becoming a 2nd rate nation in almost every category except military power, and even supremacy in that category is at serious risk if we are forced to continue financing our armed forces with money borrowed from potential enemies.
Truth is, despite the pompous pronouncements of our intellectual community, God really does exist and His rules of conduct still apply to America as a nation and to Americans as individuals. Furthermore, He doesn't break or even bend His rules in order to accommodate our contradictory desires, and IMHO that means we as a nation and as individuals are way overdue for a correction of our libertine lifestyles and disbelief in the reality of the One who condemns those lifestyles.
(BTW, I looked up "contradictory" in my handy-dandy Webster's, and yes it is a real word and I actually spelled it right 1st time around the block!)
