June 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) Following a declaration by the Mexican Supreme Court nullifying state laws prohibiting marriage to people of the same sex, Nuevo Laredo Bishop Gustavo Rodríguez Vega has issued his own declaration along with the clergy of his diocese, assuring the faithful that he will suffer imprisonment rather than cooperate with such unions.
They cant require an institution like this Church to go against its principles, the archdiocesan clergy are quoted as saying in various local and national news reports. Let the Supreme Court send the bishops and the priests to jail, whomever they want, but the Church cannot go against the law of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know that we can go to jail, if some couple decides to marry civilly, but we wont give it a blessing. This law cannot obligate the Church, the Church cannot go against its principles and in fact the only ones who will come to the Church will be those who share our principles, they add.
The clergy of the diocese affirm that their position is based on scientific, anthropological, social, and religious reasons which prove that marriage is between a man and a woman (...) as the juridical tradition of thousands of years of the West affirms, a tradition of two thousand years; it is the union of one man and one woman who wish to procreate. They call the decision of the Supreme Court to create homosexual marriage a parting of the waters, and the whole world is not going to be in agreement and the Church is not in agreement with this definition.

I wish US bishops would come out and say something like this. They’re all “lamenting” the decision - which they did nothing to stop - but none of have said that they will resist.
we need two homos to go try to get “married” in a muzzie place....now that’ll be funny...
American Catholics, explain why Mexican bishops have more balls than American ones.
I may not be Catholic but I sure admire that kind of Christian backbone when I see it. Amen brother!
That would be awesome!
Nobody will be there to protect your do nothing attitude while you're
being anal raped to death. Yes, it will come to that.
Mexico too just did this???? Satan is loving it. I’m hoping for some backbone from The Church too.
Mexican clergy, unlike US clergy, have a long history of being repressed, jailed, brutalized, and even executed by their government. I think the American bishops are still living in some river in Egypt, if you get my drift.
No, Mexico hasn’t done it nationally. The bishop was actually referring to the U.S. Supreme Court decision. There are some states in Mexico that have done this - DF, aka the Capital District aka Mexico City - but it hasn’t been imposed nationally yet. What the U.S. doesn’t realize is how much Latin American countries depend on U.S. policy.

Click on the link in the body of article above. It's nationwide in Mexico, too. They beat us by a couple of weeks.
Too bad. I missed that one. Mexico is very leftwing and has been anti-Catholic since Trotsky lived there and before. The Church has only been getting by on sufferance, in fact, and many anti-Catholic laws have not been enforced for decades. But they will be now.
This bishop was talking about the US Supreme Court decision, because I think everybody now sees it as the green light for persecution.
Notice how there are NO news stories asking them for a comment?
US Bishops welcome the cash cow from the feds. They won’t say a word.
Some of them might. We’ll see. The USCCB has “lamented” it, but that’s pretty meaningless.
