Pope Francesco's Amazing Climate Theatre

Morris tells me the recyclical Laudato Si’ is subtitled: “Pope Francesco’s Amazing Climate Theatre,” and how appropriate this is. The recyclical provides fun for all the family: there’s something in the show for everyone: global warming enthusiasts, liberals, Buddhists, atheists, New Age hippies, greens, and everyone who enjoys those lovely pictures of Saint Francis surrounded by corgis, hummingbirds and My Little Pony, without asking awkward questions like, “What did Francis say about sin?”

At the heart of this recyclical is the popular image of Saint Francis surrounded by cuddly animals, and this is where we find the real theological and philosophical challenge of Laudato Si’. Indeed how much of this can any of us really take?

“I believe that Francis is the example for excellence of care for what is weak and an integral ecology, lived with joy and authenticity. It is the patron saint of all those who study and work in the field of ecology, loved by many who are not Christians.” [Laudato Si’, 10]

This seems a rather curious way for a pope to introduce Saint Francis. Yes, despite the unfortunate fact that many Catholics venerate Saint Francis and are inspired by his teachings on conformity to Jesus, papal authority, sin, fasting, and abstinence, that hasn’t totally damaged the image of the saint for non-Christians. His traditional Catholic spirituality can be easily ignored because there is a fun side to him! The alternative-lifestyle Francis, the New Age Francis, the ashram Francis, the eco-warrior Francis: in fact there is whatever Francis you want. There is even the poor Pope Francis, smelling of the sheep and bravely riding along on a wounded institution, the poor Church, which can redeem itself in the world’s eyes by rebranding as a reformed and useful NGO.

Frere Lapin, also known as Brother Rabit presented a draft of Laudato Si, the papal encyclical on ecology, to his donkey Rubi. After her foal Morris translated the work, Rubi obliged with the commentary excerpted above.

This tongue-in-cheek, perceptive commentary shows that Rubi may be a donkey, but she is not an ass. Appropriate graphics and scientific findings enliven the commentary. A must read for animal lovers who also love the Catholic Church.

One assumes that the phrase here quoted, to wit: “example for excellence,” was intended to read “example par excellence.”

I once had a lot of hope that the catholic church in Rome would help unite Christians of all creeds in the defense of a civilized world. I thought, perhaps, it would call out to it’s far flung children to unite in the purpose of protecting their brothers and sisters. Instead, the church is lead by a pope who trades Jesus for earth day and rainbow flags.

Ignorantly, I thought it would happen in my lifetime. A renewal of faith and a return missionary uplifting of savage and fear filled lands...

Note: I’m not a catholic. I was an Episcopalian until that church left the gospel as a relic of the past. Watching churches trade the bible in for environmentalist dreams of utopia makes me sick at heart.

Pope Francis gave full support to the global warming hoax which is the “Golden Calf” for the global warming cult that has been enriching the false the prophets of that new religion (Albert Gore is the high priest of that cult.)

“Satellite and balloon measurements show there has been no warming for nearly 20 years. Some land surface measurements can be induced, after much statistical “correction,” to show a modest warming. Either way, whatever has happened to the climate these past two decades has not been major. The models that generate climate predictions are terrible. For decades, the models have predicted high temperature increases.

The reality has been very different: temperatures have been (more or less) flat. The models are not just bad, they are lousy (look at this picture and judge for yourself). Not only that, but every scientist used to know that when a model made such rotten predictions, the theory on which the model relies must be false.” (Leaked Laudato LamentedCrisis Magazine ^ | June 17, 2015 | WILLIAM M. BRIGGS)

To declare that men can control weather changes is the epitome of arrogance, even for a Pope. The Sun, and in first instance God are responsible for weather changes.

By the fruits you will know the tree, by their advisers you will know the leaders.

Pope Francis is more radical and dangerous than Obama. As soon as he took power he rescued from the trash bin of History the Marxist liberation theology after was proscribed by John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Francis called the most radical of its leaders, Leonardo Boff, who was silenced by H.H. Pope John Paul II, as one of his adviser for his encyclical that tries to give moral support to the global warming hoax, but instead Francis destroys his credibility and demeans the respect for the Catholic Church.

Another of Francis’top advisers is German Prof. John Schellnhuber, a well-known Malthusian and climate radical.

In Pope Francis’ call for a “bold cultural revolution” to confront climate change, he is using classic Marxist terms (Mao’s Cultural Revolution and Marxist liberation theology) to promote political agendas aimed toward the advance of “collectivism, redistribution of wealth, and global government.”

English is not Rubi’s first language. Thanks for pointing this out.

Frere Rabit has discontinued his wonderful blog. This article is now reposted and can be read at https://dorothydayworker.blogspot.com/2018/03/looking-at-laudato-si-with-seriousness.html.
