** Papal encyclicals are generally fairly long documents containing a variety of points about one or more issues. Some or all of these points are often about things that are beyond the scope of papal infallibility, dealing with things other than faith or morals, or being directed to some segment of the church. Traditionally, encyclicals are circular letters addressed only to the bishops of the Church. They tend to be discussions of some pressing matter at hand.**

From a Vatican website.
Not picking on you, but there is a whole world out there, that isn’t the US.
Real, and I mean real, poverty exists in China, India, Bangladesh, Africa, etc. There are some real SOBs out there, namely Chinese, who are raping and pillaging not only their own environment, but also natural resource rich Africa, etc.
There are little kids who pick apart motherboards and other computer parts to melt them down for silver. Of course, the application of sustained heat creates noxious gases the kids breath in. And the list goes on and on.
Look at what the USSR and China did to their farmland, as well as to other parts of their countries. Look at the Caspian Sea, or what’s left of it.
Is the global warming stuff a bunch of nonsense? Sure, but not everything written is about us.
It’s rather typical of how they have developed throughout history isn’t it. Keep enough “good stuff” to keep the faithful happy but slowly evolve into a world control institution. Satan is sly for sure.
Good article by Fr. Z
**Overpopulation is not the problem:**
I bet this fact is not getting mentioned in the lamestream media.
The Vatican website here was an error. Sorry
:I think the Pope needs a new staff.”
I think we need a new pope. This time, one with a brain.
Nice article! I’m looking forward to reading and checking out the references- thank you!
Yes, I know that there is real poverty out there. I have seen third world poverty. The thing is, this encyclical WILL be used as a cudgel by those in positions of power to hammer at developed nations while turning a blind eye to the filth and grinding poverty of developing nations. This is already being used as a tool by the Left here and abroad.
Cliff Notes version:
Just read the good parts, like where he reminds us to talk to people instead of hulking over our mobile phones.
Anyone who dislikes the bad parts is emotionally unhinged. They are having a meltdown, and such people should be consigned to a sanitarium, or least ignored.
The Pope is right, no matter what.
You mentioned here as well as abroad.
I’m thinking that if we are attacked as they promise — our whole nation will be one of poverty and destruction.
Any thoughts?
*Nod to Felix Unger!
Poverty and destruction suits the Left just fine so long as they can rule the ruins. Look at Latin America. So many countries that are blessed with tremendous natural wealth, but various socialist governments and policies keep the vast majority of the citizens in grinding poverty amid poorly developed natural abundance. The socialist oligarchs don’t care because they get to rule over “the masses” and control what little material wealth they have.
YEP
Nah, there is no hope in the Pope, just in Jesus Christ.
I’m just afraid that by the time you RC’s wake up to the boondoggle your religion has become it will be too late and you will be standing at the Great White Throne Judgement, God Bless.
So the Pope didn't sign off on this? No Vatican endorsement? This encyclical doesn't advance the positions of the Left? The Left won't use this for their purposes and the Pope was naive? LOL
I was summarizing the article, not my own viewpoint.
“We have had enough of immorality and the mockery of ethics, goodness, faith and honesty.” (229)
Sounds like a slap at entertainment, particularly television and movies. I hope people understand how the six words “We have had enough of immorality” will make the Left grind their teeth with their disdain of the word “values” and their constant parroting of “Do not judge”.
“[C]oncern for the protection of nature is also incompatible with the justification of abortion.” (120)
JP2 and B16 also wrote and said this in their own ways.
I’m gonna stick with the thesis I’ve had since shortly after this Pope was elected: The portrayal of him as very liberal is WAY overdone.
“he’s carrying the water for the Globalist agenda”
I’m pretty sure the Globalists aren’t crazy about this passage:
“A spirituality which forgets God as all-powerful and Creator is not acceptable. That is how we end up worshipping earthly powers, or ourselves usurping the place of God” (75)
It would be one thing if that was the case.
But it's even slicker than that. They don't want to be the "world control institution." As a Catholic, I could actually defend that idea (under the thought of trying to re-establish Christendom)
But it is becoming ever more apparent that this is not their goal. It appears as if they want to pull everybody to a different "world control institution." One run by atheists.
It is as if they are acting just like the "useful idiot" leftists that agitated for communism during the days of the USSR: they do so thinking that they will have exalted roles once Soviet Communism took control of the West...when the truth is that they would be the first to be exterminated.
