Christian Millennials - Not An Oxymoron

...churches should not be afraid to tackle controversial issues such as homosexuality, sexual impurity, and divorce. Where else but in church will young Christians hear Biblical truth and be prepared to handle the most pressing social and cultural issues of our age? Public school? Television? College? To paraphrase Flannery O’Connor, the church must push back as hard as the age that pushes against it.

Rather late for Millennials, we’re adults now. It might work on the next generation, since they’re still in their formative years.

I live in a town of less than 100K and it has 3 catholic churches. The most conservative one is on campus, and the most liberal one is in the suburbs. The downtown one seems more conservative than most but not as much as campus.

Fix the schools. That will solve most of our problems.

I agree completely, but the problem also lies with how parents are raising their children. My mom is a teacher at a Christian school, and she deals with some of the worst kids in my opinion...all very entitled and happy to play the victim. Not to say I was/am perfect, far from it...but really it needs to start with the family, the individual, before it will ever get to the school system.

I think the less religious aspect is more so millennials are not as inclined to pretend they are religious. I get the impression that a decent percentage of my parents generation just goes to Church because they always went to Church and not because they actually want to be there.

As for creating schisms across generations, this was done by sending people to school, and soccer practice, and summer camp, and college, and so on such that by the time they become an adult they are guaranteed to have not spent anytime with adults.

Rather, church leaders should encourage Millennials to seek mentors from among their elders, who have the wisdom that can come only from years of life experience and spiritual growth.

Based on my experience with most adults above 35, they are individuals who need to feel relevant, involved, and have their emotional health regulated lest they throw a hissy fit. They also seem obsessed with squeezing every last buck out of every single person possible. For example, my boss appears to have an attitude that if a problem is not solved in 5 seconds (when we have a month), that we need to reach out and get help from people. This is the last group of people I want to get any mentoring from.

Elders must pass on their heritage and knowledge.

Most need to be told to go sit in a corner.



As for tackling difficult issues, the place to start would be at home around the dinner or breakfast table.
