Featured Term selected at random:

NET WITH FISH

Symbol of the Church based on the text "the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast unto the sea. When it is full the fishermen haul it ashore" (Matthew 13:47). Saints and sinners will fill the net to be sorted out later. Reminiscent of Christ's meeting with Peter and Andrew casting their nets into the sea as Christ bade them, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men" (Mark 1-17).

Anyone ever see Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth"? James Farentino played Simon Peter. It showed a lot of his inner struggles, and made me appreciate what it was he left behind. At one point, he was trying to convince Matthew, and himself, that he was just going to be away for awhile. Matthew, who had once been his sworn enemy, a tax collector, told him as it was: he would never return for long, nor live with his family, not simply be a fisherman again. He would never be the same, because the world would never be the same.

Those aren't keys to a gate: they are the knowledge and authority to lead Jesus' flock along the path that is the most direct, yet with the greatest fullness of the truth. The Kingdom of Heaven was at hand, and Peter was to have authority over it as the Vicar of Christ, when Jesus ascended, and the Spirit was given on Pentecost. Today we saw clips from, "Quo Vadis"; my personal favorite part of that film was when Peter was in the Circus Maximus and called to his flock to have courage- a gesture of faith, leadership, and fatherly love, which ultimately cost him his life... He who had been so afraid was transformed... A simple fisherman became one of the greatest of men!
