Philippines Cardinal Luis Tagle -- often cited as a possible successor to Pope Francis -- has called on Catholics to avoid looking to the pre-Second Vatican Council church with a sense of nostalgia, but to embrace and live out the council's sense of openness to the modern world.
This is an excerpt. I failed to click the box.
Yes, embrace the Modern Physical Materialistic World, Don’t worry about your soul or the Spiritual Realm that is outside of time where Past, Present, and Future don’t exist.
Of course God would embrace the material world, he had no ideal how the world would change over time.
Damning, absolutely Damning
What is funny about the article is that despite what the bishop says the modernist Catholic Church is totally focused on self and not on Christ.
On the other hand, we went to a high latin mass last night in West Hollywood attended by three priests of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP), about 20 altar boys, a large choir w/organist, Confession on demand, and a potluck afterwards. The liturgy was magnificent, the preaching exceptional, and the focus totally on Christ.
The FSSP will be ordaining 13 more priests next Saturday. The demographics are not with the liberals, eventually they will die out. The Church might be small at that point, but it will be orthodox.
Is Pope Francis in opposition to FSSP?
I used to attend an FSSP mass in Lexington KY and really enjoyed it. There is one Tridentne Mass said once a week at one parish here in Las Vegas.
Exactly. Any Mass where the celebrant turns his back towards the tabernacle during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has lost focus.
Noooo, I don't think that's correct. The priest does turn his back to the tabernacle, but not to Jesus, as Jesus is the Eurcharist, and the Eurcharist (host & wine) is on the Altar when he is saying Mass. So, the Eurcharist is in front of the priest and is also in front of the people during Mass, yes?
No! Jesus is not present on the "protestant table" until the Consecration. And after Holy Communion, the priest again turns his back towards Him.
Las Vegas also has a very good Byzantine community.
The FSSP emphasizes the positive side of things, and discourages the negative, such as is found in the Pius X crowd.
The latin mass does not just happen, it is a labor of Love. All of the ancient forms are made new by the priest, the altar boys, the choir, the congregation.
Over time you get used to the language and you’ll learn to follow along in the latin missal. You already know the Gloria, the Credo and the Pater Noster. Watch the Priest. There are key movements he makes that mark where you are in the Mass. He’ll wash his hands at the Lavabo. He’ll make a full 360 turn when at the Orate Fratres. That’s right before the Preface, after the Preface comes the Sanctus. That’s about half way through the Mass. Everytime he says Dominus Vobiscum, you stand up, etc. After awhile, you won’t need to hear what he’s saying. Latin Masses are quieter than the NO. Yeh some people who go to Latin Mass think they’re more Catholic than others. I ignore them.
As a former SSPX priest once said to me: “Catholics often make the mistake of hearkening back to the 1950s to a Church that never really existed.”
Thank-you and God Bless you.
If the NO is done in a reverent manner, that is all that matters.
Yes, Vatican II was not merely "pastoral". It was the "New Pentecost" as stated by John XXIII. Out with the Old Pentecost (the beginning of the Catholic Church) and in with the New!
And somehow the pre-Vatican II church didn't point to Jesus? This article is chock-full of Vatican II anti-Tradition propaganda.
And of course, O’Malley is in Francis’ Gang o’ Nine.
No mention of the Catholic Church being the Immaculate Bride of Christ anymore, huh.
Mass-wise, maybe. Church-wise, no.
This explains why I'm no longer Catholic: no matter the mass, no matter the language, I aways got - IN DEEDS, NOT WORDS - pro-killing (welcoming pro-abortion people to give speeches to the young), pro-stealing (espousing social spending via taxes and debt), anti-Americanism (always bending over backwards to welcome more illegals, no matter how it wrecks our society, teaching that American values are wrong) evil doing.
No amount of reverence in a ceremony can compensate for evil deeds.
