In comments to Roman clergy yesterday Pope Francis referred to cases that happen often where bishops have accepted traditionalist seminarians who were rejected by other dioceses. Because they presented themselves very well, very devout, said the pope, the bishops failed to find out information about them, and they were later found to have psychological and moral problems." Ordaining such seminarians, said the pontiff, is like placing a mortgage on the Church.
The comments came in a meeting with Roman clergy that, in order to be allowed to flow freely, Pope Francis asked not to be televised. However, Romes Zenit News Agency, with close ties to the Vatican, constructed a report of the proceedings based on interviews with priests, some of whom had audio recordings of the popes remarks.
While, according to the Zenit report, the pope only raised the negative assessment of traditionalist seminarians using their piety as a cover for psychological and moral problems, liberal clerics too have exhibited such problems. Nevertheless, liberal Catholics have gleefully taken up Pope Francis words as a prescription to avoid traditional seminarians.
The popes negative reference to traditionalists is not new. He used the term in his closing address to the Synod Fathers gathered in the Vatican for last Octobers explosive Extraordinary Synod on the Family.

Pope Francis, do you think Catholics are stupid?
It is abundantly clear that it is the ordination of homosexual molesters and Lavender Mafiosi which places a "mortgage on the Church".
Duh, blather, we all know that those who hold the Traditional Faith are psychologically and morally bankrupt!
Seriously though, how do real Catholics keep themselves from hating this fraud?
"In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph."
Take confort, when Pope Francis hits 80, he will step down.
Only limp-wrist Donna Wuerl clones wanted as Catholic priests, the ones that advocate Holy Communion for pro-abortion politicians and the ones that want practicing sodomites to receive communion. Godly men that actually want to live the authentic faith need not apply. This is the Catholic Church under Don Bergoglio and it ain’t getting any better any time soon.
He confuses the heck out of me. It’s like he’s from another planet...and it’s not heaven.
This is the most important regardless of if they were traditionalist or liberal - “and they were later found to have psychological and moral problems.”” Don’t ordain any with problems.
Then we’ll have two “Popes Emeritus”. What a joke.
Well you may in turn get a much more devout Pope!
I think it's important to understand what is meant by psychological and moral problems. What the lavender mafia calls a problem we call "faithfulness". It's as if the pope had said "we ordained these men and then found out later that they actually believe in God!"
“He confuses the heck out of me. Its like hes from another planet...and its not heaven.”
No. I’ll explain it to you. I think others in this thread are unable to do this because they are mistaking what Pope Francis is talking about. There is a “Traditionalist” movement in the Church. There are also “Traditionalist” looking or sounding seminarians who swear they were kicked out of this or that seminary precisely because they were very, very orthodox while the rector, professors, and other seminarians are said to be overwhelmingly modernists, liberals, homosexuals, etc. Now, undoubtedly that is true in some cases. That situation (just see Rose’s book called Goodbye Good Men: http://www.amazon.com/Goodbye-Good-Men-Liberals-Corruption/dp/0895261448) is so well known that some seminarians who outwardly might be very traditional use it as an excuse to cover up some real problems they have. Even bishops - orthodox ones who are known as stalwarts of the Catholic faith - have caught on to this tactic because many of them have been burned by it.
The natural inclination of these traditional minded bishops is to believe the seminarian in question because they have seen it for real so many times. They now know they have to be careful and vett these seminarians just as much as anyone else. If they don’t vett these people adequately enough they might get a version of this disaster: http://www.riverfronttimes.com/2004-08-25/news/bishop-takes-queen/full/
Sadly, many of the so-called Traditionalists here are FR so hate this pope that they can’t even see when he is making perfect sense. I say “so-called” because I am a Traditionalist but that in no makes me unable to think with the brain God gave me. Justice is to render to each his due. Francis is the pope. I don’t have to agree with him on anything but Church teaching, but I will always render him his due and at the very least that means not overreacting to something man says without at least properly understanding it first.
To fairly render him his due, one needs to simply accept the reality that actions speak louder than words. His previous attacks on traditional Catholics are well-documented.
In any case, he is NOT saying what people are accusing him of here.
