The thing the pope said in the Phillipines that bothered me the most was none of the above. He addressed a group of people who lost everything and said “I don’t know what to tell you”

This man is a religious leader and has no answers for people who have suffered loss? Even worse he is what a large religious group considers Christ on earth and has no answers?????

This Protestant would have been able to quickly tell folks what they have lost is temporary, but they can never lose the eternal if they put their faith in Christ. Share love and commiserate, but to say you have no answers denies the one and only Answer to every question.

Pope Francis is speaking to the press many of whom are not Catholic or even religious so it makes sense that he speaks to them differently then he would say the Curia. Also Pope Francis is not well versed in English

That may have some weight, and the media can put meanings into real or "recalled" papal remarks ("Who am I do judge?") that context does not support (like as RCs often do with Scripture), but which at best shows a lack of wisdom and judgement on his part, and or those who elected him. A leader must be able to communicate well, as Peter did, esp. a world leader, and have the wisdom to answer leading questions as well a sincere public ones.

It certainly is not as if Francis is not known from coming up with radically sounding statements or actions, which sets the unofficial Internet magisterium into action interpreting the interpreter (even if not binding teaching), in either indicting him, or engaging in damage control trying to support his statements as orthodox.

This is plain old liberal theology. The pope does not know that the atonement of Christ does no make anyone a child of God until they come to the Lord Jesus with repentant faith. All are God's offspring as regards being made in His image, but they are not redeemed by the blood of Christ until they are regenerated. Instead we are children of the devil (Jn. 8:44) and of disobedience. (Eph. 2:2

Moreover, any "gospel" being preached her is that of a path towards peace with atheists by social action. And which Francisology is consistent with other interpretive statements subject to interpretation by RCs:
Don't proselytize; respect others' beliefs. "We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: 'I am talking with you in order to persuade you,' No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity.
