No, my point wasn't to suggest that only Scripture should be used to illustrate points. It was to try to let people know about the richness of religious writing that exists historically.
It's kind of nice to see posts like this especially in view of the usual FR antagonism that dominates religious forum posts ... Thanks.

If everyone used God's words alone as the standard by which to judge all writings and beliefs that antagonism would all but disappear. It's when people put some man or group of men as their source for understanding above what the apostles wrote the problems arise.
