Pope Francis' recent leftist statements should trouble Catholics and non-Catholics alike, but even more disturbing are the pope's latest declarations on the dramatic action needed to fight climate change...

...What climate-change action will the Vatican endorse? Almost all the leading anti-climate-change initiatives endorsed by the Green Movement — cap and trade, carbon taxes, regulations against using abundant fossil fuels — are merely regressive taxes that hurt the poor the most. What is the ethical and moral basis for going to poor villages and telling those living at subsistence levels that they have an obligation to save the planet by staying poor and using less energy? Cheap and affordable electric power is the best antidote for extreme poverty, disease, malnutrition and human deprivation....

Francis did not survive corrupt South American regimes & politics by being a dunce. He’s a smooth operator, and a leftist, to boot. His humbler-than-thou act will wear thin over time. Perhaps it already is.

It’s biblical to be good stewards of the environment.

The problem is that the Pope is believing junk science about the environment and therefore focusing on hoax environmental issues instead of real environmental issues.

Agree, it’s in Socialist / Communist countries where deforestation, soil erosion, poor crop yields, and improper land & water management are occurring. It’s free markets and the entrepreneurial spirit that are saving the environment. Francis isn’t stupid, but he’s likely scientifically ignorant and politically misguided.

I would imagine many Catholics would find themselves at cross-purposes with Frank’s embrace of junk science. Hard to imagine at least some wouldn’t feel compelled to decouple from that church.

The green movement is anti-Christian.

The whole point of “being green” is to “work” for your own salvation by your advocacy and “caring about the erf”.

Hmmm... maybe it DOES fit, though - the whole “works-based salvation” thing, that is.

Not possible! The Pope is infallible according to the First Vatican Council of 1869–1870...[sarc]

Catholics who love God need to wake up and get out before the fire falls...

Green = Socialist = Godless.

What part of that does Francis not understand?

Anyone who believes “climate change” is caused by humankind, must - by definition - , take God out of the equation.

This is one more in a long list of reasons why I don’t trust this pope.

The green movement is the RED movement— and they typically do not like Catholics of ANY stripe. About which see— Poland, the Baltic states, Romania, CIS etc. The STATE does not like religion, whether the STATE is fascist of the Left or the Right, or Communist of the ... whatever.

This pope is a complete fool tool and servant of the Jesuits— the criminal element of the Society of Jesus. The new world socialist christian movement. Greenies indeed.

"Rich capitalist countries improve the environment while poor socialist countries destroy it."

I don't think it's so cut and dried. We were doing pretty good about destroying our environment until we passed regulations and formed the much hated EPA.

The problem is that the EPA doesn't have sufficient checks and balances and thus they frequently overreach and are subject to being used by rogue machurian Presidents. I'm an advocate of putting checks and balances on the EPA but not dismantleing it completely.

Conversely, China a communist country has embraced some catpitalist reforms and suffered a lot of polution as a result. If they had democracy, they might have reigned in some of those problems faster. But I don't know that for sure.

Russia supposedly has great environmental protections for it's vast forests. But at the same time, central planning produced some of the worst environmental disasters such as Chernobyl and that major lake that ceased to exist.
