RE: If you want to go all Old Testament about it, theres plenty of justification for killing everyone whos not from one of the twelve tribes.
With on proviso — GOD VERBALLY COMMANDS IT.
And since He is the author, giver and taker of life, only He has the right to command it.
Anybody today who tells us that God commands the same thing VERBALLY today is either a lunatic who should be locked up or an ISIS terrorist ( but I repeat myself ).
Sadly, the present leadership of the Catholic church is quite confused about prudential matters. This is not infallible, by far, but is highly authoritative, from “Rerum Novarum,” the foundational document of Catholic Social Teaching: “The importation of laborers for the intent of driving down wages so as to deprive workers of a living wage is a crime which cries out to the Heavens for vengeance.”
A demonstration chant that rhymes in Spanish:
Inmigrantes ilegales, son ladrones, criminales.
Illegal immigrants are criminal thieves (of our tax money.)
“The importation of laborers for the intent of driving down wages...
I have been searching high and low for that quotation, but I can’t find it.
As I understand it the word ‘’Philistine’’ meant ‘’those who came from the sea’’. I never knew of any Palestinians paddling around in boats.
The ultimate root word “palash” actually refers to rolling around in the dirt, i.e. wallowing. From “Pelesheth”, though, it refers to a migratory people.
Here’s where there is debate over how far to take analogies. New Testament writers weren’t shy to apply Old Testament situations in analogy. But ultimately, a church that tried to be Caesar too, bit off more than God had told it to chew. It has never quite been the same.
I’d doubt there is any conspiracy to that depth... it’s more like, where can we get warm bodies to agree to do what we want for the best price... okay, let’s do it. Corporations have more than once said that it’s up to governments to regulate. They aren’t about regulation. They are not asked by their shareholders to do that.
Rerum Novarum.
Any time you hear the claim, “they’re doing jobs Americans just won’t do,” you have to remind yourself, “they’re doing jobs Americans just won’t do AT THE WAGES OFFERED.” Construction, meat-packing, even janitor services all used to be decent-paying jobs and are no way below any wage anyone can make a living at.
The NT writers were writing by direction of the Holy Spirit (II Tim 3:16). They knew exactly how far to take it and no further. If you turn everyone loose to analogize, you end up with the Catholic "church" claiming the priesthood continues, the sacraments are the sacrifices, the Law is gone, and the body of Christ is a continuation of the nation of Israel (not to be confused with the elect).
The Catholics need to read the entire story. Their organization does not comport with that story.
“Rerum Novarum.”
I have checked several versions, and none contained that passage.
“Rerum Novarum.”
Seriously. It’s not there.
??
Looking for it. I was 99.9% sure that was the encyclical... but I didn’t pick up the keywords in the scan...
