When I was a little girl, in between getting slapped by a nun for screwing up Catechism question #14, I would retreat into daydreams of the pope - cosseted away in the plush red velvet of the Vatican! He was an amazingly holy, distant and fascinating figure to me. I’d like to go back to those days.
