What Will the Synod Bring?
National Catholic Register ^ | 10/02/14 | EDWARD PENTIN, ROME CORRESPONDENT

In a long address that opened a consistory on the synod, the German cardinal ended his speech by considering arguments for a possible change in pastoral practice that would in some instances allow such Catholics to receive the Eucharist. His arguments were roundly criticized by both cardinals and scholars, leading Cardinal Kasper to complain of a “doctrinal war.”

And the issue of Communion to the divorced and remarried has become “a prize in the clash between what remains of Christendom in Europe and an aggressive neo-paganism,” he [Cardinal Pell] writes in the book foreword.

“Every opponent of Christianity wants the Church to capitulate on this issue.”

If you think the “doctrinal war” is about letting divorced Catholics receive communion...smh

The real war is the leftwing environmental social justice types vs the pro-life/pro-traditional family Catholics.

You can’t win a war without fighting each and every battle to your best.

Agreed. What I meant was this is just the tip of the iceburg in a much bigger fight.

My answer to the question “What will the synod bring?” is this: Without a true miracle of grace, the synod will propose watering down the process of annulment so much that it will become essentially heretical. They will maintain some sort of fig leaf they can hide behind so they can claim to the low information Catholic that they have upheld the indissolubility of marriage, but it will be nothing more than that - a fig leaf. And then they will, with a wink and a nod, encourage those who will be charged with granting the annulment to change the burden of proof from the person applying for the annulment to the person defending the bond. They may even formalize that.

I’m afraid you’re right.

That’s why we need to pray very hard.

I think you are correct as well.

And then we’ll continue to have “debates” here where certain Catholics continue to defend Francis’ actions. They will continue to insist that “NOTHING’S CHANGED!” when in reality A LOT has changed. Just more of the same since Vatican II.

Agree. Doctrine cannot change, but Biblical morality can be subordinated to "pastoral care" by essentially ignoring "small-minded rules" in the name of "mercy".

“Cardinal Burke has asked for the Chaplet of the Holy Face of Jesus to be prayed by the faithful for the synod that is meeting in October. Please take the time to pray. Also please keep him in your daily prayers, he is a wonderful and very holy Cardinal. Being in his presence is an experience you never forget. Please pass this prayer request on to others...”

Interesting that the Sin-od will open the day after the feast day of St Francis who warned:

“A Man, not Canonically Elected, will be raised to the Pontificate… In those days Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor, but a Destroyer.”

“...At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavour to draw many into error and death.

3. Then scandals will be multiplied, our Order will be divided, and many others will be entirely destroyed, because they will consent to error instead of opposing it...”
