Questions surround a Washington, D.C. conference whose stated purpose was to gather lawmakers, Eastern and Western churches, community leaders and a variety of Christian groups to confront the problem of genocide being perpetrated against Christians by ISIS.

According to Alana Goodman, writing at the Washington Free Beacon, In Defense of Christians (IDC) was funded by a controversial Clinton donor that featured pro-Hezbollah and pro-Assad speakers.

Clinton donor and Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire Gilbert Chagoury, who pledged $1 billion to the Clinton Global Initiative in 2009, reportedly provided funding for the IDC summit.

Chagoury, says the Free Beacon, also has backed Lebanese politician Michel Aoun, Hezbollah’s main Christian ally in the country, according to United States diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks....

Middle Eastern Christianity, and the persecution it suffers under the hand of (mainly) Sunni militants of many stripes, is incredibly complex. I think Cruz misstepped, not knowing his audience before going out, and perhaps being understandably ignorant of the web of weird alliances that criss cross the region.

Obviously the actions of the hecklers are reprehensible, because if someone is invited to speak, you should listen even if you disagree with some aspects of what they are saying.

With that said, Cruz as a politician really should have done his homework and either prepared to talk to such an audience, or not appeared.

Or it was an amazing “Sister Souljah” moment that you and I don’t understand yet. Remember, he’d need a lobotomy, a severe stroke, a blow to the head and a bad drug habit to get his I.Q. down around Obama and Hillary territory.

Really?

This was a sham Christian organization. It was set up as a “set-up” by muslims to make ME Christians look nutty and assist progressive liberals who support muslims.

Cruz handled this bullshite very well.

If it was a setup by CAIR bears, he should have uncovered that beforehand. The optics are bad. If it was a trap, he walked into it and got snared. Perhaps should have consulted with Walid Shoebat, who is the leading authority on this area of geopolitics.

Compared to what the libs and establishment will attempt to pull on a Candidate Cruz, this was child’s play.

I'd beg to differ. There are some things that rise to the level that there is no need to listen, but simply tell the truth. Maybe Ted Cruz was aware that it was a setup and the best option was too simply tell the truth and refute the evil in the room. Ted is not known from backing away from a fight.

The muslim savages running loose in the Middle East butchering people is one of those.

The idea that Israel is our friend and we are the best friend of Israel is indisputable.

So is the idea that those that hate Israel, hate America.

So is the idea that those who hate Jews, hate Christians, at least from a Muslim perspective.

From a conservative Christian perspective, you could not have this more wrong.

Now, from a liberal perspective, you could not be more right, however, who cares, you will never convince them.

I personally know some ME Christians who are strongly anti-Israel. While I disagree with them, I do not doubt that they are sincere in their Christian beliefs.

I don't live there, so I can't judge. I think some of this anti-Israeli sentiment may be due to loss of property going back to 1948 or even before and some may be due to ethnic solidarity. Nevertheless, it is real. The few native Christians remaining in the Middle East are for the most part against Israel.

Cruz’s only misstep was in speaking positively of Jews....among the ones not killing Christians for failure to convert. Nor are Americans, British, French, German, or other western nations killing these Arab Christians for not converting to islam.

Those killing them include Hezbollah.

Bottom line up front.

You’re right. People tend to rather idiotically assume that Christians in other parts of the world have the same political opinions and even geopolitical opinions as them... just by virtue of being Christian. They don’t.

If someone has a political opinion that is different from your own, the bottom line is, this does not change the fact that you should stand in solidarity against genocide. I do not know how the Tutsis felt about Israel or the gold standard or criminal justice, but regardless I can say that the Hutus should have been stopped whatever from slaughtering them.

I believe Israel is a safe haven for religious minorities in the Middle East, and really the only example of such a nation. They are also very fair and overwhelmingly generous in conducting warfare. There are things I dislike about Israel. Tel Aviv is a cesspool of liberalism for example. But my feelings about Israel is that it is our number one ally in the Middle East, as it should be.

We can say that, and still declare that liking Israel is not the hinge factor when it comes to whether we endorse or oppose genocide and persecution.

Many on this forum tout the ‘Special Relationship’ between the USA and the UK... I wonder if they know what the average Brit thinks about Israel? Let me tell you, the reaction to Israel’s mention would not have been nearly as muted as it was here, had Cruz been giving a speech in many of Western Europe’s great cities.

Hold on... Rob Portman was invited to this?!??!?!?!?

Okay, yes, it was a total setup. No way that fraudster was invited to an actual Christian event/ He is for the arrest of Christians who deny pervert weddings.

So who’s your candidate for 2016, because I can see it ain’t Ted Cruz.

Have you drinking?

I support Cruz for the presidency, and have not indicated otherwise at all. Saying you think somebody made a political mistake apparently now condemns them to the fire of unsupportability FOREVER! Nooooooooo!!!

Don’t have a seizure. Reagan was not without his missteps and flaws. Does not mean he wasn’t a terrific president, as Ted Cruz would be.

He prepared right quick, mid-talk, and gave them exactly what they deserved.

His full remarks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2ZVihACwQ0

Incidentally, based on the mix of applause and heckling, it appeared the crowd was less than unanimously anti-Cruz. However, there were definitely some "Christian" sand nazis there.

There’s no reason to think that there were not Muslims in attendance at this meeting. The hecklers could easily have been CAIR members or Middle East Christians, so make no assumptions.
