"Conservative" Catholics "Turning" on Cardinal Dolan? (Catholic Caucus)

A fun article in the Washington Post.

It always amazes me that there are people 'out there' who want to believe "conservative" is the proper term for loving God so intimately you always strive never be unfaithful to Him. I often wonder if they think cheating on their spouse is just 'liberal'.

In any event, it would seem Bill Donohue's credibility has finally imploded. The poor man's ministry has been suffering from the effects of needing the seat at the Bishop's swanky events for quite some time. He had to keep lowering the bar to defend the indefensible. Watching him grovel his credibility away was painful.

These apostolates survive on money from wealthy Catholics who want a seat at the Bishop's swanky events. They have invested a lot of treasure into the pockets of the Bishop to obtain a seat at the table. The Bishops then use them to influence the coverups of corruption and misfeasance. They feed off of each other.

A person who speaks openly and honestly about the skullduggery of a Cardinal like Cardinal Dolan is on a Chancery blacklist. The Chancery keeps watch on who gives money and support to such persons and makes clear their name will go on a blacklist too, if they support the apostolate.
But Bill Donohue was putty in their hands.

When that happens, the apostolate loses the support of the people running the operation on the ground - the army - and becomes an elite group of muckety mucks who are out of touch with reality.

These people are the same people who are financing the political game. When they become out of touch with the ground game of the army, they start making stupid decisions about candidates that voters are not going to support under any circumstances. But they are so accustomed to winning with their money, they are incapable of understanding their money and power means nothing juxtaposed against the foot soldiers zeal for pleasing God above everyone else, in all circumstances. They lose sight of the fact that the foot soldiers are in control. Nobody was going to vote for their white, rich Obama who would protect their money but had no intention of protecting life or religious protections in the Constitution.

I suspect Bill's defense of Cardinal Dolan's dishonorable mockery of an Irish Catholic saint was so farcical that even the rich could not support it and made critical phone calls to him. He has reversed his self.

Too late kiddo.

You were paid off to be silent until the corruption of Bishops completely destroyed everything. Don't bother stopping now that it has reached the level of the asinine. Get on his mattress and ride your fanny to his swanky events, tip the glass and smoke your cigar with him. Our people are being massacred and it is only a matter of time before they are on our doorstep.

I had a good laugh at Rod Dreher's thoughts that Cardinal Dolan might come to a realization that he's lost the support of faithful Catholics who are trying to preserve Church teaching in the face of his farcical contradictions.

I presume Dreher is consoling himself with those thoughts but Cardinal Dolan does not give a rat's patoot about actions he knows causes the loss of trust and leadership among faithful Catholics.

What he cares about is gaining the trust and political favor with Herod and Herodias. This is a huge victory for him and he no doubt is very pleased his craven capitulations have won him the leading role in the parade. Really, when you think about it, what better spot for him. There he will be in all his glory, half in the bag, and following behind him will be the Irish drunks and people wearing t-shirts announcing whose sexual orifices they are pleasuring. He owns the results of their spiritual formation and should proudly lead them through the streets of New York in victory.

We were lucky in Boston to have Irish Catholic men who withdrew after political pressure to add people wearing signs about who they are rolling in bed in defiance of Catholic Church teaching. It's tough to fight the political pressure of people who make booze in New York City. I'd love to see it become just Cardinal Dolan and people wearing signs about who they're sleeping with.

Maybe somebody in the t-shirt business could come up with some more themes.

"Kiss me, I'm Irish and proud to be cheating on my spouse." "COS" That would be a huge section.

"Irish prostitute"
"Irish and had an abortion"
"Proud Irish masturbator"

We could gas up a convertible and send Cardinal Dolan in a shirt that says "behind me are the results of what I teach or lack thereof" or, "Herod and Herodios following behind - GOOD FOR THEM!"

Dolan reminds me of a corrupt pre-reformation cardinal, like a Borgia.

Unfortunately the Catholic Church cannot be all things to all people or pretend that evil does not exist. When it acquiesces to public sinful homosexual expression and behavior, allows Catholic public officials to support abortion and not be excommunicated, it loses more than credibility. The Church hierarchy has the sacred duty to speak truth to power however unpopular their criticism may be and the initial reaction of the laity. When “Catholic” universities hire heretics, teach immorality and celebrate decadence, the bishops have a historical responsibility to intervene. Sadly Cardinal Dolan has not demonstrated the type of courage and moral fervor one would expect or historically has been seen in a Catholic leader.

Hmmm. I’m a little tired but I need a translator for this “fun” article.

Bill Donohue is an overpaid embarassment to the Catholic Church. He makes Abe Foxman’s theatrics look respectful.

I’m half Irish and I don’t find this article to be even slightly amusing. Imho, it is disgusting.

Benedict XVI: The days of culturally transmitted Catholicism, or what some might call Catholicism by osmosis, are over and done with.

"We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate standard consists solely of one's own ego and desires."

Prophetic warning from Pope Benedict XVI Oh how I miss him!

“Turning”?

Ann Barnhardt’s been metaphorically eviscerating him on a regular basis for quite some time.

It looks like Bill Donohue really twisted himself into a pretzel this time!    :-)

(He does seem to be verbally squirming right now.)

Another FReeper (Berlin_Freeper) posted a link in another thread which I thought was vividly instructive concerning Cardinal "Bravo" Dolan, and I pointed to it in a couple threads already, and thought it may be useful to some if I posted that link here as well (for any who missed it), so here it is:

"BREAKING: NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade Goes Gay - Dolan Cheers!"

"EWTN" and "Teresa Tomeo" continue to feature Cardinal Dolan in various shows and discussions, as if he is a great spiritual light of the Church, and I've decided to let them (and others) know that I cannot continue to support them if they continue to support a Cardinal who supports (among other things) pro-mortal-sin-advocates in a Catholic Saint parade.

Like this article touched on, when you think about it, which of the following perverted mortal-sin-advocates groups and their slightly reworded placards and t-shirts would Dolan seek to exclude from the Saint Patrick's Day Parade (if any)?

I took a trip down memory lane:

A huge cheer resounded through the threads on freerepublic when Dolan was announced as the new Archbishop. We would all like to have front row seats in order to shake his hand and wish him well.

I never liked him..yep, it was the whole cheese hat thing that turned me off to him...or maybe gut instinct.. For me, the cheese hat thing was a foreshadowing of his need to be liked by people. Now he's at the gates of hell, cravenly seeking worldly aplomb, and urging others to come to the party.

It's not pleasant to watch someone going on that downward spiral. Reminds me of a junkie who ends up as a ten buck prostitute.

Next you'll probably be telling us you don't trust this guy either...

   :-)

But, seriously, I think most of us would have agreed completely with NYer back then, because, to the best of my knowledge, Dolan didn't start saying and doing these seriously Catholic-contradictory things until later.    To me at first, he seemed like a nice, outgoing, gregarious guy who liked to have a good time (in the good sense), and who also obviously liked to be the center of attention, which most leaders (good or bad) do.

Unfortunately, that generally positive view has been changing the past several months because of Dolan's recent words and actions.

(By the way, what do you think about people in these kinds of hats?)

Looking back over his relatively short tenure here in NY, I would set the time frame for this change to his elevation to cardinal. Red is considered a "power" color and it seems to have emboldened Dolan.

(By the way, what do you think about people in these kinds of hats?)

Lol ... a perfect match for the cheese heads.

I am sorry that this sort of thing goes on in NY. I don't believe every Bishop acts this way. Of course I have never lived in a Diocese with a Cardinal.

Let us just be grateful he was not elevated to Pope. We really would be headed down a dark path.

On the other hand maybe he announced this this early in order to get the groundswell up. By March he can change his mind.

You may find the following article more attuned to his mindset.
