WHY CATHOLICS ARE SO OBSESSED WITH SEX
Regina ^ | Beverly De Soto

“Why is it,” said Jessica, my long-time friend, a non-observant Church of Scotland member, “that the Catholic Church won’t just, er, enter the modern era? Why are they so obsessed with sex?”

Um, I thought, here we go. We were sitting in a coffee place in Edinburgh, trying to catch up from our busy lives. Even though our lives have taken different paths, Jessica and I go back a long time. I took a deep breath.

“For the same reason that traditionally Jews forbade pre-marital sex, and sex outside marriage,” I said evenly. “After all, Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism.”

“How many women do you know who have given up on finding a good husband after a failed series of sexual relationships? Once again, used and abused – and then made to feel like she is a failure because she played the game the modern way.”

We’re not obsessed with sex. We mostly like it. Why do these other folks keep bothering us about it?

Liberals seem to me to be the ones obsessed with sex. They want free birth control and abortion. They want to tax others so they can spew their beliefs on sex to preschoolers and promote homosexuality.

Most married Catholic couples I know must love sex. They have on average 14 kids. Now you figure the times they did not conceive and there you go.

All jokes aside this is an excellent article, Regina really writes good ones.

I think it’s the culture that’s so obsessed with sex. The Church isn’t any more hung up with sexual sin than any other type of sin but the culture seems to focus on that one.

Because Notre Dame only plays four months out of the year, and even then it’s at best once a week?

I don’t think Catholics are any randier

The Jewish boys I grew up around were...a bit.

The harder the religious constraints usually the more kids hold back but not always

I’m southern baptist..felt big guilt till around 20 when my hormones finally won that battle (or Satan if you wish)

Never been the same since

Girls girls girls......everything else is an also ran in life

Most Catholic couples you know have 14 kids???

They must either be very rich or on welfare.

I don’t know how that could be done on a middle class income.

HD, it is as much a fallacy that Catholics root for ND as it is that they are obsessed with sex!

Birth control and abortion are not synonymous with sex to me.

The latter is more synonymous with irresponsibility and death.

You wish to enjoy women....better be prepared to pony up as a dad if surprises happen

God forbids sex outside of marriage because He prizes purity and holiness, even now.
God said “Be holy as I am holy.” He meant it then and He means it now, and the only sexual relationship He has called holy is Holy Matrimony, a God blessed union between one man and one woman.
Modern society has thrown purity and holiness to the curb, and become slaves to sin.

**God forbids sex outside of marriage because He prizes purity and holiness, even now.**

And, I believe, God wants a family with BOTH a mother and a father.

As a Catholic I will admit that I really, really like sex.
With my wife of 24 yrs. and nobody else.

The Church is not obsessed with this topic. They are only called on to respond with proper moral guidance as society continues to raise the issue at an ever-increasing pace.

“They must either be very rich or on welfare.”

I remember when I was first taking RCIA classes. The man who taught it had about 5 kids all under the age of about 10. I went to his house one day. He lived in an older home, probably build in the 1920’s so it had lots of room. One thing I noticed is that he did not have lots of “stuff”. Tv’s, vcr’s (this was back in the early 1990’s) video games, he even lacked a lot of furniture for that matter. Something I did notice. When he came home the one tv he did have was turned off and he played with his 5 kids in the living room. They all plied on dad and were so glad to see him while mom cooked supper. They had the basics and they got by. I could say they were very happy. I’m willing to bet he did not stop at 5 either.

Sex obsessed? Catholics don’t have a corner on this. I’d argue that any spiritually awakened believer is highly aware of the pull of their flesh towards the promise of fulfillment through sex. Because of this most should marry and have sex! Being as Paul was is a non-starter for most.

If you are given the grace to be single and celibate, realize that God will give you “an inheritance greater than sons and daughters”!

I am the oldest of 10 children. We got "handovers" from other families, which were then "handed down" to the other kids. We got two new pair of shoes a year - in August - a new pair of sneakers and a new pair of school shoes. I drank my fair share of 1/2 and 1/2 - half whole milk and half powdered milk. Any new clothes I wanted I had to pay for myself. My parents couldn't afford to send us all to summer camp or even put us in scouts, but they did take us camping which today is the most enduring memory of our childhood.

Today, I have six sisters and three brothers ( and one adopted sister) and two parents in their eighties. I recently I thanked my mom for having so many kids.
