Christians Who Support Same-Sex Marriage More Likely to Support Other Types of Sexual Immorality

New survey research shows that Christians who support same-sex marriage are more likely to hold permissive views on other sexual morality issues, such as divorce and pornography, similar to the general population and far different from Christians who support traditional marriage.

The "Relationships in America" survey, conducted by University of Texas sociologist Mark Regnerus, interviewed 15,738 Americans between the ages of 18 and 60. From that sample, Regnerus compared the average views on a range of sexual morality issues of churchgoing Christians who oppose same-sex marriage (2,659 in the sample) and churchgoing Christians who support same-sex marriage (990 in the sample).

Mark Regnerus, Same Sex Marriage and Christians (Table: Mark Regnerus)

Sexual morality views of churchgoing Christians who support and do not support same-sex marriage. Data from the "Relationships in America" survey. Lead researcher is Mark Regnerus, associate professor of sociology at The University of Texas at Austin.

Regnerus wrote about that comparison in an article for Public Discourse.

When asked if "viewing pornography is OK," only five percent of churchgoing Christians who oppose same-sex marriage answered that they "agree" or "strongly agree," compared to 33 percent of churchgoing Christians who support same-sex marriage. The national average is 31 percent.

All the other issues similarly showed that the views of churchgoing Christians who support same-sex marriage were similar to the general population while churchgoing Christians who oppose same-sex marriage looked different than the general population.

Jesus said, “If you continue in My Word, then you are my disciples.” These are not Christians. They tolerate evil in themselves and others. God knows the sheep from the goats and will do the judging accordingly.

So much for the conceit of liberal Christians that they constitute some kind of contrarian or prophetic presence in society. They are just lapdogs of popular culture.

Paul says in Ephesians that among us believers “there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality”. He also said there must not be any filthy talk or coarse joking.

Of course, he said this after telling them many wonderful things about who they ARE in Christ. Knowing who you ARE in Christ makes all the difference as to dealing with sin (within or without).

Sad that so many preachers get this backwards and try to “deal with sin” by getting you to DO something. They’re afraid to tell you what has been DONE by the last Adam, Christ—”a life-giving Spirit”. Apart from His FINISHED work, we are all toast!

Because some people in government are now hostile to marriage as God defined it, in order to protect godly marriage we must remove the power of the State to define and regulate marriage. Then anyone will be perfectly free to enter into whatever relationship they want. However, they will not be able to call upon the police power of the state to force me to recognize a “marriage” that I know is theologically illegitimate and morally repugnant.

If we remove government from marriage and return it to the private sphere where it came from, lesbians can still marry each other, but they won’t be able to use government to force me to sell them wedding cake or artfully photograph their “marriage”. They will be free to do as they please without being able to coerce anyone else about their private affair.

But this was never really about marriage. For homosexuals it was social engineering and payback. They could bust marriage as God defined it, they could rub Christianity’s nose in it, they could punish people who objected and they could force anyone who was too vocal to shut up. But what they really want is approval, and it just galls them that a lot of people will never give it to them.

The money verse is, "By their fruit you shall know them".

That is the standard. There are a lot of deceived people running around thinking they are Christians. Wheat and tares.

If they support same sex “Marriage[s]”, they are not Christians.

Bingo. You stated it perfectly!

It’s a well-known maxim in the sexual counter-culture that all sexual norms are out the window - including, though they won’t admit it - age of consent constraints.

Why else would all these leftist groups campaign for the “sexual rights” of children?

To paraphrase Reformed pastor Douglas Wilson, the call for society to redefine the gender requirements for marriage doesn’t come at the beginning of the fall into sexual immorality. It comes at the end of the fall into sexual immorality.

Sadly there's going to be a lot of shocked people some day.

God sets His standard in Scripture.
