Praying for peace in the Holy Land alongside leaders of long-antagonistic nations, Pope Francis called on God to act where human efforts had failed, to end what he described as violence inspired by the devil.
More than once we have been on the verge of peace, but the evil one, employing a variety of means, has succeeded in blocking it, the pope said June 8 at an evening ceremony in the Vatican Gardens. That is why we are here, because we know and we believe that we need the help of God.
The pope addressed his remarks to Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during an invocation for peace in the Holy Land, to which he had invited them during his visit to the region two weeks earlier.
I was young, now I am old. I experienced war, I tasted peace, Peres said in an English portion of his statement. Never will I forget the bereaved families, parents and children, who paid the cost of war. And all my life I shall never stop to act for peace for the generations to come. Lets all of us join hands and make it happen.
The event, at which Christians, Muslims and Jews prayed in each others presence, was almost certainly the first of its kind at the Vatican, according to Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office.

Isn’t the Pope supposed to be God incarnate? If so, why hasn’t he brought peace to the Middle East?
That’s an interesting idea, since God plainly will not allow any “two-state solution” to be permanent.
NO, the Pope is not God Incarnate.
I hope you're trying to be sarcastic with this question. If not, you really need to do some research. Thx.
It was set up that way before Joshua crossed the Jordan. IMO, it is obvious even in the correlations between the blessings upon the descendants of Abraham and Ishmael.
He is the Holy Father, right? The Holy See who sees all and knows all? The only one who can interpret his own words written in the Bible?
The pope can do all things God can do.
Pope Clement VI., Acta Clementis, c. 1350; cited in the Roman Catholic publication: Granfield, Patrick, The Limits of the Papacy, NY: Crossroad, 1987; p.36.
Of course, that might be taken out of context.
I agree that it will take a literal miracle to bring peace to that region.
Interesting. I thought the Pope was supposed to be familiar with Scripture.
Obama and his worshipers think Obama is God.
Obama to Pope: “I know, I know...but I’m busy right now with a bunch of scandals...”
There will be no peace until after the apocalypse. I would assume the Pope has read Revelation.
LOL!
You are insulting and absurd. I have my disagreements with Catholic leadership. However, NO true Catholic thinks the Pope is “God Incarnate”. Your post is bigoted and does nothing to promote the conservative cause.
Obama thinks he is god. Is that close enough?/sarc
This might have been an interesting thread.
Unfortunately you decided to make it about your ignorance and bigotry.
“Isnt the Pope supposed to be God incarnate?”
No, the pope is supposed to be given divine inspiration directly from God. Therefore the opinion of the pope is supposed to be infallible.
Isn’t being infallible render one God or a god?
