George Will's article is a political lament on how LBJ's trillion-dollar (plus) "Great Society" gradually poisoned Amertica's family structure and strong work ethic.
With all due respect ... George Will is WRONG, by several light years.
Why ?
George Will, singing in perfect harmony with most Washington DC Beltway Glee-Club "insiders" (Hillary Clinton, Karl Rove, Jeb Bush, Juan McCain, ad nauseum) haven't a clue about the truth behind America's decline over the last forty (40) years.
Or, more precisely, since 1954, a full decade before LBJ proposed the disasterous "Great Society".
Why 1954 ?
Many American Christians wonder “why” our nation is gradually slipping away into spiritual darkness.
Why has it been over 100 years since America had a (genuinely) great National Revival ?
Sure, Rev. Billy Grahman's Crusades were great; but did they fundamentally change America's "spiritual core" ? NO.
The 700 Club television network, James Dobson's "Focus on the Family", Promise Keepers, were great; but did they fundamentally change America's "spiritual core" ? NO.
Great Christian movies like "The Bible"; "Son of God", "Fireproof", "Facing the Giants" are great; but did they fundamentally change America's "spiritual core" ? NO.
Great Christian athletes and coaches like Jim Tebow and Tony Dungy; but did they fundamentally change America's "spiritual core" ? NO.
Consider the year 1954. It was the beginning of a tidal wave of spiritual darkness that has destroyed a “Christian America”.
What happened in 1954 ?
1) WHY did LBJ's stealth "satanic agenda" in 1954 DIRECTLY CAUSE in 1963 the U.S. Supreme Court banning Christian Prayers in America’s Public schools ?
2) WHY did LBJ's clandestine "satanic agenda" in 1954 DIRECTLY CAUSE in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court allowing legalized Abortion (56 million murdered children) ?

Satan knows that the "LOVE of money" (not money itself) is a powerful spiritual weapon.

MONEY for great Christian Universities.
MONEY for Missionary teams to Hatii and Russia.
MONEY for Moody Bible University and it's network of radio programs.
"FREE" Money ... all in exchange for IRS 501-C3 Church Tax Exempt Status.

I like the metaphor of computer virus for what happened to us in the second half of the 20th century.
But this pitch seems rather sensationally presented and exploitative.
Well America has become a missionary field once again.
Speaking of mission-fields, the greatest failing of the church in America was our failure to send "swarms" of missionaries to Japan at the close of WWII.
The good news though is that the missionaries that will come to America most likely will be from Africa.
Plus `54 is nine years after `45, the year in which Japan surrendered; America's failure to send legions of missionaries to Japan is, I believe, the greatest failing of the the Church in the United States — moreover, it indicates that the real spiritual decline started prior to `54.
Why is that good news?
Because I have seen first hand myself.
What is “good news” about missionaries from Africa as opposed to missionaries from any other place?
Because the Chriatian Churches there have seen the largest growth that is why.
I fail to see how that makes them superior missionaries.
If some gibbering African missionary presumed to teach me about Christ I'd laugh in his face.
That is not accurate.
A main reason why Christianity NEVER took root in Japan, is that when missionaries came to India both in pre-war and post-war Japan - the Missionaries limited their preaching to the New Testament.
The Shinto and Buddhist peoples of Japan were never given any proper understanding of WHY the world needed a Savior, because the entire concept of sin was never explained from Creation onward.
Churches with roots in the scriptures are those that establish a vibrant Christian community.
As a missionary, I’ve seen this at work in India. When missionaries come to preach a social Gospel and limit themselves to only testifying from the New Testament, congregations they establish have no root and it’s members stay for only as long as provisions are handed out. Once those cease or are diminished, the locals go right back into their old religion. This is especially true of Evangelical and some Baptist congregations in India.
Congregations that were established by giving the brethren an understanding of the Old Testament, and WHY the world needed a Savior in the first place are the congregations that endure and last and are growing.
The attempted establishment in Japan of Christianity was neutered from the beginning, because the missionaries themselves started at the middle of the Salvation story. Knowing WHO the Savior is is not as important as knowing WHY we need a Savior and WHY it is specific to Christ.
Spoken like a TRUE TROLL which removes all doubt.

Look for the nations in the nations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to be the new Christian missionaries to America and the west.
