I know why.

Because those who can’t accept it believe it’s too easy.

In fact their own attitude proves it’s the most difficult thing in the world to accept.

Because it involves genuine self realization you are inherently bad, your heart is bad, our natural way is to be bad and turn away from God and good, and that you have to really acknowledge you deserve eternal punishment, have to realize there’s nothing you can do on your own to make it right, and let the enormity of THAT sink in, and then sincerely ask what can one do to avoid such punishment? And be grateful God made a way - one way - for everyone - no preference, not easier for one or another - the rich and the poor, makes no difference - you all get there the same way, on your knees with a shattered heart.

Without help from God natural man can’t even accept salvation. He gives us the saving faith in order to believe. He has to. The natural mind can’t get there on its own.

That’s why it’s so difficult to accept what is so freely given.

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matt. 12:40)

I have cousins that live in Gehanna, Ohio. It is a nice little town. If that is ‘hell’ then it isn’t so bad. — just a little joke. And the bible doesn’t say how many nights, only “days.”

And don’t forget to begin debate on “how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.”

King James Bible
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

NOW we don’t care that as an unbeliever you want to make fun of the discussion, but you are certainly unfamiliar with truth and the Bible. So we won’t see you in hell which you think is okay...you are on your own!

What about:

Matt 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

I forgot about Matthew using Jonah and the whale as an example. I just get frustrated over what often seems to turn into a “proof test of faith/belief” over ‘how to count the 3 days.” And if you don’t believe as another thinks is true, then .....

We aren’t arguing, at least Former Fetus and I aren’t, we are just discussing how to find the actual year Jesus was crucified.
Now, that isn’t relevant to our Salvation, and we do not care if others believe differently. This was a discussion and if you have something to add fine that relates fine, but if not...butt out. Humor is okay.

However making fun of people who are dedicated to their faith is not nice. I made that comment to you, because if you don’t believe in God, that’s your choice. We aren’t trying to convert you.

Happy Easter Anyway.

my guardian angel has quite the sense of humor. Three times I have had paper float to the floor and stand on edge. Now anytime anything lands of edge I just laugh.

From my older research Jesus was crucified and died on Thursday, the year of the Jewish Holy High Sabbath of Passover, not our Sabbath. He arose on the first day of the week...so Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights explain the three days and three nights....I’ll check back and see if I can find the actual year it was thought to happen as those Holy Sabbaths change by year, and that one was on a Thursday.

I, too, have labored over the counting of the days. I like you I have come to the same conclusions. Jesus said that he would be, like Jonah, 3-days and 3-nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40). That is 3x24 hour periods, not parts of days. If Jesus died at evening on Friday, then 3-days and 3-nights takes us to Monday 6pm, not Sunday morning before dawn.

Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation, the day before the passover which starts at evening (see Leviticus 23). This is when the passover lamb is to be sacrificed. Jesus is the passover lamb (1 Corinthinans 5:7). So, here is the time line using our mondern am/pm reckoning, but overlaying it on the Bible's evening/morning reckoning:

The Sabbath that was approaching was NOT the weekly Sabbath but the starting of the Passover ("for that sabbath day was a high day" John 19:31). This unchains us from the weekly Sabbath fixation and we can work backwards from the discovery of the empty tomb. Since Jesus was already risen Sunday at dawn and he said he'd be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. That takes us to Wednesday at evening for the placement of the sacrifice of the passover and his death on the cross. Projecting forward 3x24 hours takes us to the end of the weekly Sabbath.

On the third day he rose again.....Dead on Friday, still dead on Saturday, Sunday is the third day. Easy, unless you are trying to confuse and distort.

Yeah, Sunday is the third day. So what?
I questioned the comment that Jesus disappeared for three days.
Since we knew where he was Friday and Sunday, he really only "disappeared" (i.e. not accounted for) for one day.
If confusing people on this thread was my job, I'd have been been on unemployment long before you piped in.

Question all you want, but don’t expect to sway me in my faith. Jesus descended into hell, on the third day He rose again. He is Risen! Hallelujah!
