MEXICO CITY – Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah got a mixed reception at its world premiere in Mexico City Monday evening.
Hundreds of screaming teens attended the red carpet event at the Pepsi Center, many on hand to see actors Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly and Douglas Booth. Co-writer Ari Handel also joined Aronofsky onstage before the screening. The film's star, Russell Crowe, wasn't present.

Looks good. I am going to go see it.
Any so called Christian movie that has a disclaimer attached that says they have taken artistic license and they believe the movie is as close to biblical times as they deemed believable is not worth seeing.

I will wait until the movie, “Heaven Is For Real”, which I have the book, comes out.
I would imagine it is the same in a number of Middle Eastern countries with the other Bible movie, “ Son of God “ for that same reason.

Well that’s true of all movies based on real events. There just isn’t one that is 100% accurate. It makes for boring story telling and often there just isn’t enough historical info to make a full story.
This is what the director said:
Taking the stage before the show, Aronofsky told the audience to expect the unexpected.
“It’s a very, very different movie,” he said. “Anything you’re expecting, you’re f-—ing wrong.”
Who would want to see a biblical story with that threat.
They make a big deal of Mexico being a Catholic country and that they expect it will be big in other Latin Catholic countries.
I call hogwash on that.
Last Lent I attended Mass in 29 different Catholic churches around the Pima diocese in southern AZ, which is larger than some states. This is a border area and there are lots of people originally from Mexico.
The churches that had the most weekday attendants were not in the primarily Hispanic neighborhoods. They have huge churches that are too large for the community that has replaced the older one. It would be me and maybe ten others. There are even large areas where there is a large Hispanic community and there isn’t even a church nearby.
But in the white, middle class and upper middle class neighborhoods, the churches, the chapels and the community rooms were stuffed with white people, mostly retired, and were regular daily attendees.
In the area north of Tucson, where I live, the churches are not filled with people from Mexico or of Mexican descent. Except from the failed mining towns, you’ll see mostly white people, and they are over-represented in the community.

Hi! Yes, it is a there are a lot of seniors here where I live, and they are transplants. But the transplants from Mexico, in their new neighborhoods, they do not take up their religion again, or as I am positing, they were not faithful people to begin with. You don’t see a lot of senior Mexican women in those churches either. Sometimes it is just church staff and people who hold positions of responsibility in the church who go to morning Mass.
The Mexican homes I have visited here, are full of Catholic images, but they are not devote people. (And I am saying this as a person, who should be and wants to be more devout.) It seems to be a traditional way of decorating, or as I suspect, part of a superstitious-leaning.
But my oh, my, does our bishop try to curry-favor the Mexican population with it’s public sympathy for illegal alien migration. Which is kind of strange because the demographics in the church do not warrant this.
I visited one church that was very well attended (by English speaking people), and they have a separate Spanish Mass. It also organizes the “social welfare” cause of bringing attention to the “harsh” treatment of illegals. They had a garden display for the illegals that died in the desert trying to come here. But no symbolic cemetery for the little ones that were killed in utero.
Not surprised that there are a lot of retired folks. It is the warm, dry desert climate that is attractive.
I’m always suspicious of ‘Bible’ movies. There’s enough Bible fan-fiction in the world as it is.
