A little slow on the uptake, I'd say.
I believe that the good father is talking about demonic POSESSION and that he is not naive. I’m sure he absolutely knows and realizes that Satan and his demons are working overtime in the LGBT community. Catholic clergy are all too aware of demonic “influence”. The world is full of sin and evil. So we don’t take it lightly.
In this instance, I believe he is asking whether “demonic possession” is involved; which can only be delivered, at least biblically speaking, through exorcism. Every satanic cult, whether it be Satan worshippers, the LGBT, or whatever, will have unbelievable powers of deceit, cunning, and influence, when the group is lead by someone “possessed”. But they always show their true colors sooner or later.
