Celibacy isn’t the problem here. Pedophilia is, and married men are far more prone to pedophilia than celibate priests.

How in the world would you know??? The pedophiles are shifted all over the world to keep from being revealed...The victims are threatened with Hell if they speak out...

You nor none of us has any idea how many pedophile perverts are in your religion...

It would interesting to know how many pedophile cardinals there are at present...Or even popes...

am dumbfounded that Catholic pedophiles can get insurance for their crimes...They must get group rates..

so can Protestant pedophiles.....or rather the organizations that employ them and keep in mind that the VAST majority of these offenders are NOT pedophiles but rather are homosexuals preying on youngsters....chicken hawks, so to speak.....a pathetic group of current political activists who are winning more and more battles in our government.......yes, they are the same ones!!!!!

The much bigger point is this: There is NOTHING contained in the Bible mandating celibacy as a precondition for service in the priesthood. PERIOD.

You are exactly right...And who would have come up with such a rule except a group of queers trying to keep their lifestyle unhindered???

There is no excuse for the way the Catholic church has delat with the problem.

that is the truth and they have attempted, over the years, to deal with righting their wrongs.....the Catholics have paid our MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars to percieved victims of sometimes real, sometimes fictional victims.....other groups have paid virtually nothing.

your comment on percentages still holds true, and while it may vary in some instances, the numbers are so overwhelming that one must be careful not to draw the wrong conclusions.

half the teachers in the state is still a lot worse than half the priests in the state.......

Protestant clergy, teachers, scout leaders, etc, etc far outnumber Catholic clergy in the number, period.

There are about 3.5 million school teachers in the US alone...Worldwide that would be scores of millions...That doesn't include scout leaders, etc...

There are like 39,600 Catholic priests in the US...

They have the intestinal fortitude to compare the numbers of 40,000 priests against 3,500,000 teachers alone and claim their numbers are better???

Are they all that ignorant???

The deception runs deep.

They can’t afford to admit that we’re right. If they admitted we were right about even one thing, that would open the door for them to admit that we could be right about other things as well.

Then the whole house of cards would come tumbling down.

So go ahead and post all the articles about Protestant pedophiles who were shuffled around from parish to parish, and church to church.

Cause whenever someone posts a thread about immorality in Protestant circles, words like *charges have been filed*, *bond*, and *jail* are commonly associated with the man.

We’re waiting......

The policy of mandatory priestly celibacy was implemented in the Middle Ages and was basically finalized at the Council of Trent. The Church had some good reasons at that time for trying to impose some measures of discipline as corruption was running rampant in the Church during this period and nepotism was a big problem. This is the primary reason the policy was implemented. I understand the reasons why the policy was implemented at the time but strongly question why it must remain etched in stone. At least I think it merits some discussion and debate why it must remain in force. There is certainly nothing in the Bible mandating such a policy for the priesthood. So the Church must come up with other reasons for keeping it in effect.

Psychologists: Internet Trolls Are Narcissistic, Psychopathic, and Sadistic
Soulskill posted yesterday | from Hugh Pickens DOT Com
The Internet 269

Hugh Pickens DOT Com writes “Chris Mooney reports at Slate that research conducted by Erin Buckels of the University of Manitoba confirmed that people who engage in internet trolling are characterized by personality traits that fall in the so-called Dark Tetrad: Machiavellianism (willingness to manipulate and deceive others), narcissism (egotism and self-obsession), psychopathy (the lack of remorse and empathy), and sadism (pleasure in the suffering of others). In the study, trolls were identified in a variety of ways. One was by simply asking survey participants what they ‘enjoyed doing most’ when on online comment sites, offering five options: ‘debating issues that are important to you,’ ‘chatting with others,’ ‘making new friends,’ ‘trolling others,’ and ‘other.’ The study recruited participants from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk website and two measures of sadistic personality were administered (PDF): the Short Sadistic Impulse Scale and the Varieties of Sadistic Tendencies Scale. Only 5.6 percent of survey respondents actually specified that they enjoyed ‘trolling.’ By contrast, 41.3 percent of Internet users were ‘non-commenters,’ meaning they didn’t like engaging online at all. So trolls are, as has often been suspected, a minority of online commenters, and an even smaller minority of overall Internet users. Overall, the authors found that the relationship between sadism and trolling was the strongest, and that indeed, sadists appear to troll because they find it pleasurable. ‘Both trolls and sadists feel sadistic glee at the distress of others. Sadists just want to have fun ... and the Internet is their playground!’ The study comes as websites are increasingly weighing steps to rein in trollish behavior but the study authors aren’t sure that fix is a realistic one. ‘Because the behaviors are intrinsically motivating for sadists, comment moderators will likely have a difficult time curbing trolling with punishments (e.g., banning users),’ says Buckels. ‘Ultimately, the allure of trolling may be too strong for sadists, who presumably have limited opportunities to express their sadistic interests in a socially-desirable manner.’ Perhaps posting rights should only be unlocked if you pass a test.”
