I thought the law was written so that if one part was struck down, the rest of it was voided. What happened to that?

So Sotomayor issued one of the more conservative court rulings of 2013? The world has turned upside down.
I don't know about that. She, like Kagen and Ginsburg were partisan, rather than ideological, appointees to the Court.
I could very well see her kicking into "Wise Latina" mode and realizing that press about a group of nuns, who dedicate their lives to service to the elderly, being forced under Obamacare to include birth control in their insurance plan wouldn't make for good press right at the start of what's going to be a very, very hard year for the Dems.
I could very well see those three aligning together with the Court's Conservative wing under the auspices of saving their fellow Democrats and their Party from their own stupidity.

“Smart Latina goin rogue? Or did the messiah decide to let his beyotch on the bench alter this aspect to make this change for his own political expediency.”
Presidents don’t “let” SCOTUS judges do anything. They’ve been rogue since Marbury v. Madison, when they excercised a power (strike down legislation as unconstitutional, AKA “judicial review”) found nowhere in the Constitution’s text. Still, good outcome in this case.

“That’s how are Court is supposed to work. A single Justice rules on emergency stays.”
Right. Each circuit is assigned one SCOTUS Justice. The 10th happened to have Sotomayor.

The freedom of religion is for individuals first, religious organizations by extension.
The exemption must apply to anyone whose religion forbids such.

So now we are getting a picture of just what Roberts’ treachery is causing even in the halls of the subPreme Court. Even a progressive like Soto cannot swallow the filth.

I am shocked and amazed that she blocked the enforcement of the HHS mandate. But happy that she did.

Did Justice Roberts and the liberal justices, including Sonia Sotomayor, who voted to uphold ObamaCare actually read the complete 2,000 page law before making their ruling?
If they didn’t, they should feel some remorse at having allowed a law which they only partially read to be implemented, since it is now turning out to be such a disaster.
On the other hand, whether they read the law in its entirety or not, they should be equally upset because Obama has unconstitutionally changed the law by executive order since their ruling.
In either case, all of the Justices who are not blinded by liberal partisanship should be eager to repeal as much of the ObamaCare law as possible.

More injunctions against ObamaNoCare abortion/birth control yesterday:
Is this some kind of record? On the last day of 2013 four different federal appeals courts issued temporary injunctions against enforcement of the Obamacare contraceptive mandate. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals acted on two different cases, Michigan Catholic Conference v. Sebelius and The Catholic Diocese of Nashville et al v. Sebelius, while the DC Circuit Court of Appeals acted in The Catholic Archbishop of Washington et al v Sebelius. Meanwhile, no less than Obama-appointee Sonia Sotomayor issued an injunction in the case of The Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged, Denver, v Sebelius. Extracted from AmericanThinker.com

Never underestimate the power of prayer from poor holy nuns. As you mentioned, they were planning on leaving the United States if they were forced to pay for the play of others, and that was not just a threat. So good on them! And what better day for the heavens to send an answer, than on the Feast of the Holy Mother of God? We'll keep praying, too.

Birth control isn't about money. It's about following God's mandate to Adam and Eve and all married couples:
Genesis, chapter 1
God created mankind in his image;
in the image of God he created them;
male and female* he created them.
28God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.* Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that crawl on the earth.m

He was threatened and his wife and children were threatened. There is a lot more to his story and vote that we do not do. Remember, he cast it in tears?

I think the Sisters of the Poor probably wrote individual letters to each justice, don’t you?
