The Pope is “shocked” by Malta’s Civil Unions Bill, which will allow gay couples to adopt children, Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna has told The Sunday Times of Malta.

Defending his decision to use his Christmas homily to reiterate that a family had to be built around a man and a woman, Mgr Scicluna said he had aired these concerns with Pope Francis when he met him on December 12.

“We discussed many aspects...and when I raised the issue that’s worrying me as a bishop [the right for gay couples to adopt] he encouraged me to speak out," Bishop Scicluna said.

Even when one moves the pope from the papal apartments to the Sancta Martha House, his life remains insulated from all that is happening in the world.

Okay, then I guess we can expect His Holiness to be leading the charge in defense of the family in 2014? Or can we expect more of the ‘who am I to judge?’ sort of comments that so endear him to the media?

My interpretation of the Pope’s previous comments on homosexuality “shock” me as to this attitude concerning gay adoption. I sure hope we are losing something inthe translation.

‘Defending his decision to use his Christmas homily to reiterate that a family had to be built around a man and a woman,’

Why aren’t OUR(US) Bishops/Cardinals engaging in similar homilies?

I’ll answer my own question: Cha-Ching

(For the record, I’m a Roman Catholic quite disgusted with the Church leadership with no intention of leaving the Church.)

The problem is this: As stated previously, these guys are so insulated from the outside happenings that the ball is past the plate, the horses are out of the barn, the cats are out of the bags before they recognize there is a problem.

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Sunday invited the faithful to join him sprititually in prayer for the upcoming Concistory and for the next Synod of Bishops which will focus on the theme of the Family.

Celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family on this first Sunday after Christmas, the Pope entrusted the work of the bishops to Jesus, Mary and Joseph and recited this prayer: Read More

Your understanding of this comment, it seems, comes from how the msm projected those words. The reality of its meaning, OTOH, is quite different. The pope does not stand in judgement of anyone ... that is reserved for God, alone. The statement had nothing to do with gay adoptions.
