If we call the day Jesus was born “Christmas Day”, then, yes, He was born on Christmas Day.

That aside, the information in your article is compelling, especially that the celebration of Sol Invictus didn’t really happen until far later in the Roman Empire.

What difference does it make. Was Jesus born, Was he the third person of the Holy Trinity?

The answer is Yes.

More drivel. Because Dec.25 is so close to winter soltice, the connection is pretty obvious. The author dismissed Mithras and Sol Invictus without anything to replace it so . . . ta da! Christmas must be Jesus' Birthday. No debate team award for him. There is NO evidence for Dec. 25 being anything special as far as religion or Bible is concerned.

I saw a tree in the gutter on 12/26! The jerk probably put it up on Thanksgiving Day.

Why cloud the real message (He is risen!) with all the constructs and essays which have nothing of importance?

He was born, allowed Himself to be killed by sinners that sinners need not perish, and rose again from the dead to fulfill the prophesy/promise of Grace. Some of these "essays" are useless diversions that do not add to the message/truth.

Purely anecdotal but: Doing work in both Christian and Jewish cemeteries I have noticed that far more Jews have a 12/25 birthday than Christians. In a Christian cemetery it is rare enough to be surprising. My own birthdate I have seen many more times in Christian cemeteries than I have seen 12/25.

While I really don't have a dog in this fight (to me the important part is that He came to the earth, not when He did), there are some odd things in this article.

and 35.1956 degrees longitude - why does this matter? And four digit precision. Is the weather that much different at 35.1967 (what's that - 15 feet away at that longitude)?

It is not clear why January 6 became the date to celebrate Christmas in some Eastern churches. - really? Never heard of the changes made to the modern calendar?

The bit about the creation on the vernal equinox is odd too, considering the source.

Also, while the vernal equinox was considered to be on March 25th by Julius Caesar, the old style calendar caused the date to shift (there's that pesky calendar again), and with the adaptation to the Gregorian calendar it is now March 20th when the equinox happens. Which, by this logic, would mean we should celebrate Christmas on Dec 20th!

Anyways, thanks for the entertaining article.

It's sad that families have embraced the retailers Christmas calender. By December 25th not only is the tree a 6 foot pile of tinder but we're suffering from "Christmas Fatigue."

We're an anticipatory culture where we invest all our energy in the build-up to an event and have none to spend on the event itself.

According to Anne Catherine Emmerich Jesus was born on November 25th in either 4 or 6 BC.

To me, the birth day is important in the fact that the Lord came in human flesh. However, the RESURRECTION day to me is more important. That is the day He rose from the dead to give us eternal life, defeated sin and Satan at the Cross.

It is rather easy to figure out which day Jesus was born on, or we can come real close, from LUKE.
Luk 1:5

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia:

Figure out when the course of Abia was, then figure when Zacharias went home, figure the conception of John, then from that yo can figure out the conception of Jesus.

From this Jesus was conceived around Dec 25, and born in early September of the next year.

Easy. I have no problem celebrating Dec 25 at all.

I also read in another posting that the belief back then in that culture was that a person died on the day he was conceived. Can anyone do a simple search to determine whether the day of preparation was on March 25th the year Jesus died?

Let's see . . . the first eleven chapters of the Torah (at least) are adaptations from pagan mythology . . . but J*sus was literally born on 12/25 and the Masons are plotting to take over the world.

Something about this seems a bit . . . off.

Just goes to show what a jumbled mess of ideas is created when people have to trash the Bible to prove they're good Catholics!

I think the title is wrongly phrased. By definition, Jesus was born on Christmas Day. They mean to question whether h was born on December 25th.
