D&C 18:8. How Is the Name Joseph Significant?

“Attention is called to the name, because the Scriptures predict the coming of a great deliverer in the latter days, so named. Nephi says that Joseph, the Patriarch, predicted the coming forth of the House of Israel on the American continents, of a ‘righteous branch’ and a Seer, whose name, he said, ‘shall be called after me’ (Joseph), and after the name of his father (II. Nephi 3:1–15).” (Smith and Sjodahl, Commentary, p. 83.)

From the Mormon Church's Religion 324/325 coursework:

“Attention is called to the name, because the Scriptures predict the coming of a great deliverer in the latter days, so named. Nephi says that Joseph, the Patriarch, predicted the coming forth of the House of Israel on the American continents, of a ‘righteous branch’ and a Seer, whose name, he said, ‘shall be called after me’ (Joseph), and after the name of his father (II. Nephi 3:1–15).” (pp. 34-35)

So the name of this latter-day "great deliverer"? Joseph...(as in Joseph Smith)

Who is "Smith and Sjodahl Commentary cited by the Mormon Church in this student manual?

Lds "apostle" Hyrum M. Smith and James Sjodahl co-wrote a church-approved A Commentary on the Doctrine and Covenants, published in Liverpool, England, 1919.

Here is BYU-Idaho Lon A. Pyper's syllabus and Powerpoints related to teaching Religion 324 and 325 @ BYU:

Part II on how The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints see Joseph Smith pertaining to the "Latter days":

Part I: The Return of the Prophet Joseph Smith [Will 2014 bring the second coming of Joseph Smith?]

Frankly, this is all nonsense that gets you nowhere. There were 66 books written two to five millennia ago which are all you need (if you will read, study, understand, believe, and live) for your salvation.

Now, how is this article related to "Part I" linked in post #2?

Well, note the BYU-Idaho prof who teaches this subject as mentioned in post #1: Lon Pyper.

Then go to this publisher of Mormon authors -- Cedar Fort: Cedar Fort publisher: Author Norma Pyper Mitchell: Book entitled Prophecy Checklist; See reference on p. 71

When you click on this link above (p. 71) of Norma Pyper Mitchell's Prophecy Checklist book (her being one of the same Mormon Pypers), you find the exact same Heber C. Kimball reference as quoted in Part I of this series:

"Before that day comes, however, the Saints will be put to a test that will try the integrity of the best of them. The pressure will become so great that the more righteous among them will cry unto the Lord day and night until deliverance comes. Then the Prophet Joseph and others will make their appearance and those who have remained faithful will be selected to return to Jackson County, Missouri and take part in the upbuilding of that beautiful city, the New Jerusalem."

Norma Pyper Mitchell's book was published in January 2002. (see Cedar Fort catalog)

So true; but, Thankfully; there is much, MUCH more to be received from GOD on this Earth!

(Lds: are you AFRAID of Brigham Young's warning?????)

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;

and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,

and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)

In LDS theology the voice of warning has four components:

(1) deity, who originates the message;
(2) the message, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ;
(3) an authorized messenger, who delivers the message; and
(4) mankind, to whom the message is delivered.

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)
