School Omits 'Christ' from 'Silent Night,' Upsetting Parents By Beth Greenfield, Dec 20, 2013

Christ has officially been removed from Christmas. At least that was the case at one middle school on Long Island, New York, where its holiday-concert chorus sang a version of "Silent Night" that had all references to "the savior" and "holy infant" removed by school administrators. But the effort to avoid alienating people seems to have backfired.

"It's offensive," one father of a student at the Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School in Kings Park told CBS New York. "If you're going to remove words to not offend other religions, what about the religion that that song belongs to, which is Christianity?"

The fifth-grade students sang the edited classic — which mixed and matched verses in a way that left out the most religious references — at the concert, on Dec. 12. But that upset some parents, who felt the song was sacred and should have instead been left intact or instead been performed as an instrumental or kept out of the concert altogether. Some spoke out about it at a Tuesday board of education meeting.

Why don’t they just change all the words to be about Obama and his Mama?

I have noticed that in media it is perfectly acceptable for them to use Christ or Jesus if the context is irreverent or borderline blasphemous. But neither will be used in a reverential context.

Yet if you removed a curse word from a ghetto rap song the ACLU and NEA would be in them like white on rice.

We are a Christian Nation but omitting “Christ” from Silent Night in a public school for one Christmas show is irrelevant and moreover a distraction.

What is more important is that the entire Bible, daily Christian and Creation Science have been kicked out of not only public schools but also our pubic colleges and universities.

A Christmas carol is meaningless when there is no Christianity in our schools and they force the so called theory of evolution on of school and college aged children.

Thanks for the printable link of Silent Night. I thought #9 was to illustrate how they had censored and cut up the song at the school :)

The revised lyrics are a paste-up of lines from multiple verses, as follows:

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing allelujah
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Overt references to the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus (whom the song is actually about) are omitted, but I guess that glories streaming from heaven, and angels singing, are sufficiently non-sectarian to get past the censors.

Of course, that leaves us not knowing why the angels are singing, or why the night is holy as well as silent, or who is sleeping in heavenly peace. (I guess it's saying that even though there are bright lights shining in the sky and a chorus of angels making a racket outside, we're just supposed to sleep through it.)

Is there any sort of intellectual requirements for a school administrator these days?

A little more Leftist revision please....

Silence the Right, darken their light,
All Neocons, are not very bright,
Glorious streams from Lenin and Marx,
Sung for us Liberals in Rap and Hard Rock,
Weed is such heavenly peace, eace..
Feel joy in ‘equality’..

Absolutely correct!
But it is WE who must take action and condemnatory words are no longer sufficient. March on the school and the school principal’s residence. Recall the school board. If they don’t see the light its time they feel the heat. This is what the gays, atheists do.

Getting upset no longer cuts it. Pulling the kid out of the school and denouncing the school is all that will work.
