The thief who became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ hung helplessly naked from his cross, yet was granted the opportunity to be a historical eyewitness, in a most anguishing experiential way, of God's great salvation event as he watched the suffering of "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29)." The thief on the cross is the ultimate example of the law free gospel that offers salvation by faith through grace without works (Romans 3:21-4:8; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Last I looked, this was supposed to be a news forum.
2,200 year-old ""news" shouldn't count.
no he wasn’t...he was a one of a kind situation and because Jesus was God...He could pretty much do anything that He desired.
Look around, again. You've wandered into FR's Religion Forum.
The gospel is good news based on historical testimony of the disciples who became apostles - who are essentially news correspondents of what they saw, heard and touched (Luke 1:1-4; 1 John 1:1-4; Acts 1:21-22). By the way, I did put my check on Religion and even proselytizing when I posted this through the Free Republic - so it is allowed.
I see your point, but I dunno. It seems newsworthy to me.
See just today, Congressman Alan Grayson, an unrepentant thief on a cross, hurling insults at Jesus, for example.
A one time historical event has ongoing testimony - http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/03/the_historicity_of_the_resurrection_of_christ.html.

.
A typical lack of understanding from a catholic.
No, Yeshua could only do that which pleased the Father, and that which pleases the Father is always and only can be that which is just.
Even if it drastically altered the world?
Oh, it "altered" it all right. Just not in a good way.
One of my ... mo ... my favorite bible character.
Never even said "I'm sorry", didn't get baptized, never went to church nor temple/synagogue, didn't give a dime to a missionary, a church or the building fund ...
just said ...
Lord.
remember me.
As I explain ...
Consider the days before the crucifiction ... maybe this guy had heard the noise about some Jesus character ... I mean ... he WAS gonn'a die ... he got capital punishment and he knew it.
I like to think that maybe he was remembering his mother on Mother's Day (in the original Aramaic, they had one ... welll ... sort of .... OK ... they didn't .. ) and when he asked, "Ma ... waddaya' want for Mother's Day" she so sweetly says, "Just be a good boy"
And THAT'S what's goin' through his head.
And the day comes when they crucify him and he hears his cut-buddy talk down on Jesus and figures, "What a jerk ... still rebellious" ... and attempts to say SOMEtrhing intelligent.
Wasted breath ... Ma ... I'm sorry.
Lord ... remember when thou comest into thy kingdom.
All the elements for salvation are there ...
Lord ... he believes Jesus is who HE says HE is and really HAS a kingdom to go to and would like HIM to .. y'know ... put in a word for him ... if HE would
Jesus replies ... You'll be dead from THIS life today, but the instant this one is over ... you're gonn'a be with ME in paradise.
We don't hear any more from the repentent thief ... I think he has immediate peace in his heart and just lets go and lets God.
That's how I explain the repentent thief ... and salvation is just that easy and quick and eternal... just BELIEVE Him.
The thief on the cross was saved, but what a wasted life he led before that. He was extremely lucky. None of us are guaranteed our next breath. Much better to be saved early in life. It is less risky, not to mention the fact, that by the time the vast majority of people reach their death beds, they have already made their choice for eternity.
Thanks for the Good News aka The Gospel!
"Desired"
Since He and the Father are One, what Jesus desires is what the Father desires.
Quit trying to be holier-than-thou.
There is no doubt the author of the article would wholeheartedly agree with you that the humanity of Christ had to be subject to His Father’s will.
I remember these Holy Bible Verses (Luke 23:32-43), as a boy back in the mid-50s; they still bring a tear to my eye, at 63.

Works can’t get you to heaven but they can get you to hell.
i keep pondering both of those thieves on the cross next to our Lamb. their presence, the faith of one, the demands of the other explain so much about the mind of God and our relationship to Him.
Amen!
