Thank you very much for your response. A lot of it I knew (or surmised) but it still doesn’t seem right for the church to just give a pass on these very important matters. I realize I’m just a lowly parishioner, but IMO Rome could very easily take care of the problem even if it meant forcing the bishops and cardinals to do the right thing and I was really hoping Pope Francis would do it! Thanks again for your response. I appreciate it.
In better days, Drinan would have been burned at the stake after a prolonged and long overdue, ummmm, inquiry by skilled, ummm. inquirers. Regrettably Drinan, in our sorry and degenerate age, lived another quarter of a century and apparently died a natural death rather than suffering his just deserts at the hands of inquisitors.
This has been a good week.
It makes more sense if you ignore what's outside the quotation marks, in media reports.
-— Why doesnt the Vatican excommunicate them and loudly explain why? -—
There is a chain of command, and bishops are given wide latitude in pastoral decisions. Keep in mind that the Vatican has a smaller administrative staff than the University of Notre Dame, and oversees a flock of 1 billion
in almost every country.
This is why we see the Vatican making general, princpled statements, while leaving the particulars to local bishops.
Imagine the games that Pelosi could play if the Vatican became involved. Imagine the headline, “Pelosi receives communion in Texas church. Will the Vatican Respond?” And then this being repeated in countless dioceses around the world.
I see your point. Wish I could just turn off my feelings because every time she publicly receives communion or meets the Pope or gives one of her “I’m a devout Catholic and abortion is fully sanctioned by the church” screeds, it just infuriates me, like Teddy Kennedy’s funeral.
So Drinin, the priest who was the abortionists best friend, is ordered to not to run for office? Oh! the pain!
The hypocrisy of the leadership is stunning! Rant and wail about the horrors of abortion and then choke at the prospect of actually doing anything. How is the laity to view this half hearted effort? They practice abortion at about the same rate as non-Catholics.
Yeah, it makes me insane too. Wouldn’t want to be in their shoes for anything.
Only her Bishop can do this officially and we do not know that he has not. Interdict letters are private and only the recipient could make it public. This is done so that the sinner may more easily repent and return to Our Lord.
Pelosi sits in her own PU.
Excommunication of an obstinate and persistent heretic, or in the case of Pelosi a heresiarch, is both a public act and a public obligation. This nonsense that "she's excommunicated herself" allows her heresy to thrive and to multiply.
Many Catholics, my dear late grandfather among them, have been publicly excommunicated by the relevant authority, in his case by the Bishop of Hartford.
The Archbishop of San Francisco is in this case the relevant authority. Every time this lying spawn of Satan opens her mouth and says she is a "faithful and devout Catholic", or that "abortion is sacred ground" he should be having a press conference, announcing that she has been excommunicated and that her lies threaten her soul with the pit, as well as the souls of any Catholics who vote for her, who fellowship with her, or who "follow" her heresies and thereby conform their consciences to evil.
“Pelosi shouldnt be allowed within a mile of any Church.”
She should be allowed to attend. The church is for sinners not saints. She should not be allowed to mock the church.
A distinction should be made.
Excommunication is a “penalty.” There are certain acts by which a person can “excommunicate himself.” More precisely, there are acts which Canon Law punishes with excommunication “automatically,” such as physically attacking the Pope and direct involvement in a completed abortion.
Denial of Holy Communion, which is mandated by Canon 915, is NOT a penalty. Cardinal Wuerl, among his several misleading statements on the matter, has referred to Denial of Holy Communion as a “penalty.”
What this means, practically, is that Cardinal Wuerl reserves to himself the option of whether to impose this “penalty” on people like Pelosi.
But Wuerl does NOT have this option, because Denial of Holy Communion is MANDATED by divine law, expressed in Canon 915. By refusing to deny Communion to people like Pelosi, who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, Wuerl is himself obstinately persisting in direct disobedience to an UNCONDITIONAL MANDATE in Canon Law.
It is long past time, having corrected Wuerl regarding his persistence in disobedience to Canon Law, and having corrected some of Wuerl’s misleading, evasive statements on the matter, for Cardinal Burke and the Pope to ACT.
It is unfortunate that Cardinal Burke allowed himself to be elevated to the College of Cardinals AT THE VERY SAME MASS with Cardinal Wuerl. The message sent was that Cardinal Burke’s repeated statements on the issue of Canon 915 were merely academic.
It is time for definite, active disciplinary measures against Wuerl and other bishops like him.
nonsense...Pelosi and her like are the reason that we need churches. She needs to be in church and LISTEN instead of talking (for a change)
I can't stand pesosi nor Biden, but God can not differentiate between their sins and yours. Did you miss Mass on your own volitiion? Do you go to Commuhion to impress your fellow churchgoers, knowing that you haven't been to Confession in years??How about the Hold days of obligation, are you at Mass faithfully as you should be?? Are you absolutely, 100% faithful to your spouse??
I don't think that God picks and chooses which sins He will hate most. While we can see theirs, and they certainly cause scandal to others, we must be careful not to throw too many stones lest our glass house be damaged.
Actually, I'm not sure you're correct. Four sins cry out to Heaven for vengeance: murder; sodomy; oppressing the widow and the orphan; withholding the worker his wage.

They should also talk with her also about how she took the words of a sermon she heard in church and twisted them into a vicious partisan attack on her enemies.

Agreed. Men like the Cardinal could get me back to the church if they would follow through on this. I’m not not saying I’m right about this, just saying what it takes to get me back. I can’t be the only one...
You must have met the man - very accurate.
Reminds me of every other slimy politician.
