Request Denied: Philadelphia Won’t Let Church Bury Gosnell Babies

A request from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia appears to have been rebuffed, but pro-life groups plan a National Day of Remembrance for babies killed by abortions.

PHILADELPHIA — The city of Philadelphia has rejected overtures made by Archbishop Charles Chaput and others to give the babies killed by notorious “House of Horrors” abortionist Kermit Gosnell a fitting burial.

For now, the unclaimed fetal remains of Gosnell’s victims, once stored in the abortionist’s freezer, will have their final resting place at the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office.

At the close of the trial that resulted in Gosnell’s conviction on three charges of first-degree murder, Archbishop Chaput renewed the archdiocese’s request made back in 2011 to gain custody of the bodies of Gosnell’s fetal victims and bury them.

“This would be something that would happen quietly, in a proper and dignified way,” spokesman Kenneth Gavin told the Register.

But the church will bury baby butchers such as Cuomo and Pelosi with full honors. Shameful hypocrisy.

They are acting on purely legal grounds. Allowing aborted fetuses, tissue (in their words), to be buried with religious rights and regard as humans, could be legally construed as ‘constructive endorsement’ - precedent.

Future cases involving abortion would hamper their utter disregard for what they don’t consider ‘human life.’

Probably any lawyer advising these government entities would likewise.

It is the city and not the Church which is causing the problem.

It’s hypocritical to bury saints and sinners?

Woe to Philadelphia:

Romans 12:19

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 32:35

Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’

You’re probably right. I hadn’t thought of that. How sick. (Not you, but the city of “Brotherly Love”).

Rev 3:7 onward seems to apply pretty well to that city (not the church found there) IMO. (I know that’s not proper Biblical exegesis I’m just sayin...I’ve always thought of that passage when I hear such stories about Philliadephia PA).

I was saddened by this also until I realized that these bodies are “evidence” that may be needed for future prosecutions and therefore may need to be retained by the medical examiner’s office.

Similar story but the requests for burial were made by different individuals. The first request, detailed at your link, was made by Fr. Frank Pavone, president of Priests for Life.

This request was made by the Archbishop of Philadelphia.

End result was identical.

The city rejected the Church’s request to bury the babies.

Does the ME routinely keep unclaimed bodies or other human remains for years?? Unclaimed bodies in this area are buried at county expense in a small public cemetery. Let the ME office bury the bodies but allow the Bishop to do a service. Keeping the bodies indefinitely makes no sense.

There is a certain amount of hypocrisy for the Church to seek to bury these innocent victims of abortion with dignity, and give full rites to bury an abortion champion like Ted Kennedy.

If this was taking place in the Archdiocese of Boston you might have a point but it isn't. Chaput and his predecessor Rigali are not responsible for the circus that O'Malley allowed to occur regarding the swimmer.

Mary Jo May not have received justice in this life, but I am certain she did in the next.

Do you know for sure that Kennedy did not receive the Sacraments of the Anointing of the Sick, Penance and Eucharist on his deathbed?

Dear Salvation,

Private repentance would have merited permitting Chappaquiddick Ted to be buried in consecrated ground after the most minimal service. All completely hidden from view.

Public repentance, a complete repudiation of his life's work to promote the butchery of babies, proclaimed by television commercials, full page ads in all the major dailies, would have merited a small, quiet church funeral Mass with a private interment. After decades of leading tens of millions of Catholics effectively out of the church, there was no justification ever for something approximating a state funeral.

He was more reprehensible than most any abortionists. An abortionist, in a lifetime, may commit 50,000 or 100,000 murders. Chappaquiddick Ted participated in attempting the murder of tens of millions of Catholic souls.

I personally know people who have been led down the road, very possibly to Hell, by this despicable creature. The travesty of the archbishop's actions is beyond description.

I shudder that some folks thought him a good candidate for the papacy, and even now that apparently, the new pope relies on him as part of his inner circle.

I was referring to my most fervent hope that Teddy is seated in the smoking section for all eternity.
