The Russian president has opposed the adoption of Russian orphans by LGBT foreign couples, and has instructed the government and the Supreme Court to prepare changes to existing law before July 1.
Russian President Vladimir Putins order will most likely be fulfilled by the Ministry of Education and Science, which is currently dealing with issues concerning orphans and adoptions, Izvestia daily reported.
The ministry has not yet commented on the news, saying that Putins instructions had not yet reached their office.
Tensions over the issue arose in mid-February, after the French National Assembly voted to legalize adoptions by same-sex couples. At the time, the Russian plenipotentiary for childrens rights Pavel Astakhov said he would do everything to ensure that Russian orphans are only adopted by heterosexual families.
In mid-February, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that it planned to verify the possible psychological damage inflicted on Russian orphan Yegor Shabatalov, who was adopted by a US woman who lived in a same-sex marriage with another US citizen, but concealed her relationship from Russian authorities when she filed the adoption request. Two years after adopting the Russian boy, the couple split and started a legal dispute over parental rights.

When I read some of the comments on the story I weep for our country. The fact that Americans are writing they wish this KGB Dictator was our President is simply scary.
We have slipped so far in our desire for real leadership, this monster looks good to us.
I am not disagreeing with his stance on this single issue—I am just sorry that the leaders in this country would cut their arms off before taking a stand—a definitive stand—on any issue.
Good on you mr KGB.
He would be a better American than our current POSOTUS.
(Though who knows what Mr KGB is really thinking)
Historically, in the old USSR, homosexuality was a crime, IIRC, it could get you 8 years in the gulag.
Russia is demographically imploding, they can’t afford to pander like us.
Sadly, I don’t know how successful their pro-family policies have been in countering the immense social problems they have.
He is only codifying or ramping up a long standing Russian law that Russian children not be adopted by homosexuals
American homosexuals with Russian adopted kids lied through their homestudies to get them, passing as “single” adopters
China banned homosexual adoptions a decade ago and stopped all or most adoptions by singles to avoid being lied to
Seems all the real men live in Russia.
I don’t read too much into him being former KGB, he’s not into ideology.
If the Czar were still in power at the time, he would have served him just the same.
Shame on us.
Will it make any difference to the debate in this country that homosexuals adopting is more likely to produce homosexual outcome in the adoptees? It blows the “born that way” paradigm out of the water.
Putin opposes homosexuality not for any high moral reasons, but for the same reasons you will rarely meet an oncologist that chain smokes.
For all of Putins faults, I can’t disagree with him on this one
This is the one and only time I will agree with this communist.
Our nation is in deep trouble when we agree with a communist. God help us all.
Biology Thumper!
He's a HOMOPHONE.../s
This and their single rate income tax.
Sanity is apparently still existent in Russia. I guess Vlad, for all his faults, actually cares about Russian kids.
“This is the one and only time I will agree with this communist.
This and their single rate income tax. “
And their pro-business attitude.
Countries change. They seems to be making serious changes for the better. We, in the meantime, seem to be committing suicide in all sorts of creative ways.
Putin is a lot of things...a Communist is not one of them. More of a Russian Nationalist than anything.
