"The Dean of the College of Cardinals, Angelo Sodano and the Camerlengo, Bertone (who have formed an alliance against cardinals outside the Curia after eight years of mutual hostility) did everything in their power to contain the solid group of U.S. cardinals. In the name of transparency, U.S. cardinals had held a series of parallel news briefings with the press on the issues relating to the Conclave. The briefings were held at the Pontifical North American College where the cardinals are currently staying. For this reason on Monday Rigali, the U.S. cardinal who is closest to the Curia, was given the task, through Re, of letting his group know that these news briefings were inappropriate."

Yes, probably so. However, the catholic church also talks too much and so do a lot of catholics, but we are at a loss to get it stopped. Liberal Democrats also tell lies constantly and can’t get that stopped either. I guess when God’s ready, it will all stop.

Good, it’s supposed to be secret. The election isn’t supposed to be like American Idol with people phoning in their choice.

...Now somebody’s going to suggest that now that I wrote that.

The Cardinals were giving general press conferences every day on different stages of the process, the significance of the ritual, etc. and not on anything that was actually being discussed. They felt that this would instill confidence in the openness of the process, and they did nothing to reveal anything “secret.”

The Italians, on the other hand, are busy as birddogs leaking the actual conferences to the Italian press. But the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cdl Sodano, is not only an Italian, but one very opposed to BXVI and his appointments (which would mean most of the younger American cardinals).

Even the Italian press today had a commentator saying “The Americans are being punished for the sins of the Italians.”

Very interesting twist to the reasoning for the Curia silence.

This is not the reason which was reported yesterday .....

A source familiar with the cardinals general meetings told CNA on background that the primary reason for the cancelation was that some Italian cardinals were divulging too much information to the Italian press.

He added that at this morning’s general meeting, the names of those cardinals who revealed too much were read off in front of the assembly. (!)

Either way, I completely support a media blackout. Get the secular 'flesh' out of the way to allow only the Spirit to dwell.

Isn’t that a 60s or 70s song, “Mother-in-law....You talk too much!”?

Speaking to the American Press is a waste of time. No matter what they are told by Cardinals or Bishops the press will turn it into some slur of the Church. The best policy is to ignore them. They will publish their fiction anyway.
