Very interesting twist to the reasoning for the Curia silence.

This is not the reason which was reported yesterday .....

A source familiar with the cardinals general meetings told CNA on background that the primary reason for the cancelation was that some Italian cardinals were divulging too much information to the Italian press.

He added that at this morning’s general meeting, the names of those cardinals who revealed too much were read off in front of the assembly. (!)

Either way, I completely support a media blackout. Get the secular 'flesh' out of the way to allow only the Spirit to dwell.

This is certainly nothing new . Before the election of john Paul II a number of Italian Vatican insiders made a determined effort to stampede the College of cardinals by launching a well orchestrated campaign of hysteria mongering in the complaint (corrupt and buyable might be a better word choice) Italian press that the Vatican was in a turmoil and the collapse of the papacy was imminent unless a particular elderly Italian cardinal was selected as the next Pope. This scam almost worked.

Apparently some of the "flesh" ignoring the Holy Spirit is wandering around in cassocks.

With all the internecine squabbling, political manuevering and media manipulation going on, it will be a wonder if the Holy Spirit's guidance is even a factor for some of these papal electors.
