Hooray for the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Unlike all too many liberal courts throughout the country, which have held that atheist hate speech against Christians is perfectly okay, the Sixth ruled last week that such anti-religious malice is not protected by the First Amendment.
The case dates back to 2010, when the Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist hate group based in Madison, Wisconsin, wrote a series of letters to Jim Fouts, Mayor of Warren, Michigan, demanding that the city remove a nativity scene from a holiday display it has put up for years.
Mayor Fouts told the atheists they could go to the devil. So FFRF suggested a supposed compromise. Keep the nativity scene, but add a sign declaring:
At this season of The Winter Solstice, let reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.
Mayor Fouts told the atheists, again, they could go to the devil (whether they believe in master, the devil, or not). I will not allow anyone or any organization to attack religion in general, he wrote, in a letter to FFRF. So the atheist hate group sued, claiming that the city of Warren had trampled upon its free-speech rights.
A three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit unanimously disagreed, upholding a previous federal district court decision. The panel declared that holiday displays are not a seasonal public forum, requiring governments to add all comers to the mix.
Moreover, the jurists stressed, it is not unconstitutional for a city like Warren to keep an opposing viewpoint out of a holiday display like the sign created by FFRF, which the atheist hate group specifically designed to provoke and offend Christians.
If strict neutrality were the order of the day, the panel reasoned, logically, the United States Postal Service would need to add all kinds of stamps, religious and nonreligious alike, to its December collection. Veterans Day would lead to pacifism Day, the Fourth of July to Non-patriots Day, and so on.
The heathens at FFRF raged against the Sixth Circuits ruling. They attributed it to the fact that (a)ll thee judges that decided the case were appointed by Bush I or Bush II and that the author of the unanimous opinion is considered one of the most conservative judges on the Sixth Circuit.
But what really must trouble the litigious atheists at FFRF is that the Sixth Circuit has given municipalities throughout the country a new legal defense when and if FFRF demands that they remove a nativity scene during the holidays or tear down a cross at a public war memorial or tell public school kids they are not allowed to pray before football games.
It is, as Mayor Fouts celebrated, a victory for freedom of religion.
They need our prayers and thanks!
Thomas Aquinas said that faith and reason are two sides to the same coin.
:-)
“and that the author of the unanimous opinion is considered one of the most conservative judges on the Sixth Circuit.
They say that like it’s a ‘bad’ thing..
You really have to laugh at these nitwits.
How can they be mad as hell, i thought they don’t belive in hell???
I’m stunned.
I’m sure the writer put “mad as hell” and “go to the devil” in there just to annoy the athiests. I commend him. It’s nice to turn the tables on the anti-Christians for once!
It’s good to hear about some honest judges once in awhile.
Correction to the comment of ignorance quotes in the article....it should’ve read:
At this season of The Winter Solstice (pagan holiday), let reason prevail. There is no man-made global warming, evolution, or Socialist politicians looking out for your best interest.. There is more that merely our natural world. The religion of Atheism but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds. Ask anyone who’s ever lived in a Communist country
“And because they decided in themselves not to know God, God handed them over to a worthless mind so that they would be doing whatever is inappropriate”
—Romans 1:28
CORRECTION:

IT SHOULD SAY:
“the religion of Atheism IS but myth....”
I think most radical, activist Atheists doth protest too much and deep down know there is a God.
Your average quiet Atheist, agnostic, or nominal believer are the ones who really don’t believe, or don’t care enough to give it much thought.
The typical, activist Atheist is desperately trying to escape his/her accountability to God and therefore must rail against His existence, rather than simply ignoring it.
I really doubt Jesus or his apostles had an “high and tight” hair cuts, tailored clothes or pinching footwear..
Just saying....
This reminds me of a good movie I saw on DVD the other day called, “Last Ounce of Courage”. It was about a mayor standing up specifically for Christmas, but also generally for all the freedoms we have that are being taken away.
Another good one is: The Perfect Gift (Christmas movie).
“Atheists don’t believe in God. But the Devil does’’.— Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
Just read “St. Thomas Aquinas” by GK Chesterton. What a great mind (both of them)......St. Thomas used argument (and true premises for every conclusion unlike “thought” today which uses no Reason—syllogisms are unsound). He “admitted” where Faith met Reason——but he also argued that “Faith” has to include Reason.
As Einstein stated, “Science without Religion is lame, and Religion without Science is blind.”
(This is why some religions lead to awful societies because there is no “Reason” (Truth) allowed. Thomas knew Reason would lead to Truth—indeed, it led to Galileo, Newton and Einstein).
Natural Laws (Reason) were aligned to Catholic Theology and vice versa. Thomas knew that the Laws of Nature could not disagree with God’s Design. Inconsistencies in an argument—that which riddled Hegel’s “Thinking”— were NOT allowed by St. Thomas. He believed “an egg was an egg”, never the foolish, irrational “Logic” that Postmodernists allowed-—like “an egg is a hen that is Becoming” or some such idiocy which riddles their philosophies. (ideologies).
It is why Ayn Rand cited Postmodernists like Marx as being “irrational”. They destroyed ALL “Reason” used up until the 19th century. It started with the skepticism of Modernism, true-—but that came long after Thomism and didn’t eject reasoning and Natural Laws completely until Hegel.
God was ejected by the 19th century German philosophers, as well as Darwin-—whose book became their Bible and Myth. (”On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life”.)
The USA was a product of Christianity, meeting the Enlightenment-—which you could actually prove that The Age of Reason was caused by the very ideology of St. Thomas whose “Summa Theologia” became one of the most important “books” if not the 2nd in the 13th century (second only to the Bible) in the thinking of the West and all Christianity-—that idea that “Faith and Reason are not inconsistent with each other” (1245).
Every person on earth has “Faith”. It is just that Atheists lie about it and state that there is “no God”-—when there is no science to prove it. Every thing that is “reasoned” is “reasoned” upon a “lie”——becomes warped——like the “thinking” of the Postmodernists. They don’t ever admit to “Faith” when Atheism can only be Faith because it is founded on non-scientific proof. It is why it is irrational.
Ideas matter. Reason matters and as Nietzsche declared-—if you Kill God-—you will destroy the concepts of Right and Wrong-—you kill the Lawgiver.
That is why we see in schools, little children’s minds being warped to believe Evil is Good. The schools intentionally destroy Reason and Logic and blur the concept of “Truth”. They confuse little children. They insert “feelings” as being what decides good and evil and mock any Christian Ethics which was taught in the schools until 1930. Jeffrey Dahmer, here we come!
This destroys the possibility of another St. Thomas Aquinas. Children fed warped “thinking” can never grow up to be Logical. Forcing concepts like you have to take “Pride” in Vice is evil, and destroys Logic, and schools that force this into the conscience of little children need to be in prison-—it is so mind warping and makes them “see” human beings in a warped, degraded way. The child’s whole grasp of “reality” becomes that of Satanists/pagans/occultists and immoral.
Cicero, Montesquieu and All Founders stated: Virtue is necessary for all Free Republics. The idea of Virtue being Wisdom and Excellence and Truth, etc. comes from Socrates. Socrates stated that teaching Virtue was the only reason for Education. Without Virtue, you cannot have Civil societies. You have chaos.
The Judeo-Christian worldview is essential for the USA. The US wouldn’t have been possible without Christian concepts (Reasoned).
The Cultural Marxists since the 30’s have been in charge of public school curricula——Dewey was a Fabian Socialist—who destroyed Classical Education and took out the Bible from the classroom which was an important tool to teach Virtue in children as stated by our Founders. What schools and media are doing is-—erasing Christianity——Why?
They erase Reason and insert the irrational “thinking” (ideologues) of Marx/Atheists/Sodomites/pagans so that human beings will not recognize “Truth” and fall for any irrational truths like sodomy is “good”.
Conditioning and Brainwashing was perfected in Pavlov’s/Wundt’s time-—early 20th century-—and the psychology and “Group Think” was inserted into all curricula to force children to “think” with “feelings” and urges and eject the intellect—and, of course, “Reason”, which was perfected by St. Thomas in his Summa.
