Bill O'Reilly: The Bible contradicts itself
WorldNetDaily ^ | Feb 28, 2013 | Joe Kovacs

Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, who is writing an upcoming book titled “Killing Jesus,” proclaimed on his program Wednesday night that “a lot of the Bible is allegorical,” and the New Testament Gospels contradict themselves.

O’Reilly made the remarks during an interview with “Touched by an Angel” star Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, executive producers of “The Bible” TV miniseries which begins this Sunday night on the History Channel.

Downey, who portrays Jesus’ mother Mary in the series, opened the interview by declaring her solid faith in Holy Scripture.

“Bringing the Bible to the screen came with a huge responsibility and one we took very seriously,” Downey said. “We had a great team of scholars and theologians helping us, making sure that we told these stories accurately and truthfully. I’ve been a believer my whole life, and that was very, very important to us. Something else that we wanted to do was to make it really, really cool. You know, we have teenagers at home and [it's] hard to get them to read anything, and one of the goals here was to get this generation interested and excited about Scripture, and I think we’ve been able to achieve that.”...........

Product of a Roman Catholic education.

"Some" Roman Catholic education would be more like it. Catholic elementary and high school. College at Marist, a school which was Catholic when he attended, but is no longer Catholic. (And that's not my private judgement, but the school's official position.)

Grad school at Boston U (not Catholic) and Harvard (not Catholic).

Interesting. I’ll chew on that for a bit.

Are you saying that, for example, the entire Gospel of Christ is visible in, say, I Chronicles? or I Chron. 26? or I Chron. 26:18? or I Chron. 26:18 “At the Parbar...”?

Curious.

Well, of all the analogies I use, this one is to be taken the least literally.

I came up with this analogy when, one day, for the upteenth time in my time as a Christian I read a verse I had read a hundred times before, and saw something there that was as clear as glass, though I had never seen it before. It is more like every word of the bible carries the context of the rest of the book with it. Even the Geniologies in the gospels. There are so many layers of meaning behind every single verse that I entertain the idea that, given an eternity to read and study it, one could find the entire mind of God in a single verse.

Again, I exagerate, but maybe that more clealy states where I was going with that analogy. The bottom line is that unlike books from the minds of mere men, it is layers upon layers upon layers of information in a seemingly simple and, sometimes, non-spectacular prose.

The bible, for me, is a very real proof of the existence of God. It’s existence in our world is like finding a smart phone embedded in a million year old archeological dig, locked deep in the rib cage of a dinosaur skeleton. Nothing else even comes close.

I think we need more revival in this country than revolution.

The people of this country need to repent.

And O’Reilly says “RevelationS” instead “Revelation”, and that I & II Thessalonians were written to the people in Thessalonia instead of Thessalonica. He’s said so many blatantly wrong things when it comes to the Bible, for him to bloviate on the subject is embarrassing.

[I’d like to know why O’Reilly and Dugard skipped “Killing [James] Garfield” and “Killing McKinley.”]

The phantom sequel writers are probably working on those right now.

Really.......or this,

John 20:15-18 Jesus said to her, Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek? Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, Sir, if you have carried Him away from here, tell me where you have laid Him and I will take Him away.
Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned herself and said to Him, Rabboni! (which is to say, Master!)
Jesus said to her, Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, I ascend to My Father and Your Father, and to My God and your God.
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord and that He had spoken these things to her.

Yeah, I’m sure God contradicts himself. O’Reilly, stick to Catholicism, then you don’t have to worry about the Bible.

Geez...I thought I had a good handle on the gross size of BOR’s ego but I see I was off by several orders of magnitude! Now he’s going to set the record straight because the Word of God is ‘allegorical’ and ‘contradictory’.The folks can’t trust their bibles...but worry not BOR has a new book(available on BOR.com) that should set the real stroy straight. Someone’s got to look out for the folks at home! TIt’s all for the folks.

The epitome' of arrogance...He doesn't believe what God says so he qualifies himself to speak for God...Definitely a Catholic thing...

Okay, that is a hoot. It is definitely true, but still I blew coffee all over my monitor.

I share your awe with this Book which for me is so astonishing because of its description of the plight of man and our need for rescue. I look at my own pathetic character which, try as I might, still finds ways to sin and it chokes me up that the Maker of Heaven and Earth would spill His blood for one such as me. And, this Book tells this incredible story. Grace to you, my FRiend.

I can’t believe that people seriously stop going to church because of Priests who turn out bad. My entire family still go every week. It is such a weird thing to me that a person would stop doing something they believe because of others. Good Lord. How many houses burn down every year but that doesn’t stop me from buying a home. How many teachers are found bad, that doesn’t stop people from sending their kids to school. How many people end up with food poisoning that doesn’t stop people from eating. Such a strange world we live in.

Well, if you accepted the fact that the male queer population is recruited as children as opposed to being born that way, AND, if over half of your priests are queers who likely were recruited when they were young altar boys by queer priests, would you still send your young boys to the Catholic church???

Over half of the Catholic priests are queers

"Allegorical" was an invention of the Jewish Christians after they left for Pella and following the destructon of Jerusalem as a way of dealing with OT truths.

Disbelieving the scriptures was pretty much put into practice by the Catholic Theologian Origen...Prior to Origen, the scriptures were believed pretty much as literal writings...

Your source for that alleged “statistic” is “out and proud” himself. Why should any objective person believe someone like him, who has a clear axe to grind?

It’s odd. My copy of “The World’s Great Theologians” does not contain a chapter entitled “Bill O’Reilly”.

True Iscool.... the rise of antisemitism caused a huge barrier between the Old and New Testament - which correctly would be covenants by the way (due to the Greek influence) and not “testaments,” but that is another post. shalom

Many of the Scriptures in the Old Testament were given ONLY to the Nation of Israel, not to the Gentile Nations....

would you still send your young boys to the Catholic church???

Of course. My goodness you guys are Catholic bashers. I want my children to get to Heaven. The alter boys are not by themselves with the Priest anymore. And how do you know that 1/2 the priests are gay? What a crock!!! I am SURE that they all said they were or 1/2 of them like you spew.

Needless to say, Bill O’Reilly is probably one of the LAST persons I would go to for Biblical wisdom or knowledge.
