Several people have been asking who I would like to see elected once Pope Benedict steps down. This is always a delicate question, for numerous reasons. First, it is quite clear that I do not, nor should I, get a vote. Whatever opinions I hold are simply that: my opinions and hopes. Second, should someone off my list be elected, I would not want people to think that I disapprove. It is the longest of long shots, but I would love to see Charles Chaput. He is an amazing man, and I actually the privilige of sharing a bottle of wine with him one evening at a Kateri Conference. We were staying at the same hotel. He is truly filled with the Holy Spirit.
I agree with you about Bishop Chaput. Not only is he a faithful Catholic, he has done more than most good bishops to weed out the troublemakers in his dioceses.
He doesn’t just talk, he acts; and that’s what we need.

I think Raymond Cardinal Burke would be an outstanding choice but I’m comfortable waiting for the Holy Spirirt to make known His will.
Better open war than more decades of preemptive surrender on the part of Christ's Holy Church.
2. Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera
3. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith
I can’t get the thought out of my mind.
An abbot or someone non-descript who will surprise us all.
